What you are suggesting I have tried on other single stem plants, but was not successful. If it were possible to split the stem, or trunk down through the roots so each half would have some of the crown AND some roots you might do it, but I don't think it is possible with the plants you have. I also do not think any dressing or sealing material would help. Al

Hi Linsul I agree, the first rose looks like transplant shock (messed up rooot system) or it could be too much fertilizer of some sort (burned roots). Either way, it is all about keeping the soil wet, and protect the plant during the hours of the day when the sun is at it's harshest. Some kind of semitransparent fiber cloth is often used to protect, it's easily available. Roses (plants in general really) grown in green houses get this too when they are suddenly planted outside in full sun. They need time to adjust, or leaves will burn. It looks like you have amended soil generously, and if you have hard clay soil adding compost yearly can be a must to improve it. Cotton burr is new to me, and sounds very interesting. I like seaweed meal too, it's great for improving clay soil. I like to alternate with amendments and use different stuff. Where I live composted cow manure, seaweed meal, and regular garden compost are the easiest to find. You probably don't need to fertilize with anything until the plant has bloomed. Liquid organic fertilizer, the kind that you can use for all potted plants, are pretty safe to use on everything. If you have hard clay soil it will improve with time, but yearly additions of compost, ground seaweed can be a must. Regards and best of luck with your roses :-)

Dave, Have you actually determined that you have a fungus problem? Have you determined that you COULD have a fungus problem in the future that you need to guard against? I'm not a big fan of the 'organic' no-spray method and firmly believe in 'better living through chemistry', but you should actually only use it if and when you have determined that is actually a fungus problem. Daconil and the other crap often recommended to be sprayed are poisonous you to and everything else around you. Why saturate your environment when you don;t really need to. Many of the people on GW live in environments where gardens were never intended to grow and they are fighting an uphill battle all the way. On the other hand, we have this wonderful semi-arid desert to grow in, and we have out own problems, like high winds and hail infestations :) We rarely ever have problems with the bacterial infections because it is just too dry. I have lived here all my life and the only thing me or my family has ever had to deal with were mosquitoes and miller moths. --->Rob

Before it started "dying" i didn't use any pesticide, but once I saw it and saw the spiders we sprayed with Ortho Home Defense 3 in 1 insect killer. We only sprayed once. I don't think the blueberry is dead though... As for the Iron deficiency , I bought Miracle Grow for acid loving plants. Will try that tomorrow and see if it heals! I checked the pH in the soil and it was actually 7. So hopefully it is just iron deficiency. The roots are in good shape :)
