Fall planting white sweet onion plants: your experiences?
Comments (3)Thanks, Brook. Per your advice, I will plant these in the former potato bed to keep these green onion size. Like you, I have keept extra sets in frig for fall, and had fair results, but am hoping these sweet onion plants are indeed sweet. The sweetest green onions I have ever eaten are the ones from my potato onions in the spring. Today, I got an email from Southern Exposure, and included was a Fall/Winter Veg Gard Quick reference suitable for Zone 6b/Ctrl VA. Printed it for my notebook and will forward it to you if you like, as your zone is probably similar. They list suggested planting dates for many crops. They also mention an EvergreenHardy White Green Onion,Deep Purple. Have to research that one. They say, the colder the winter, the more purple color. No mention regarding flavor. mj...See Morepolyester vs. vinyl solar shades
Comments (5)Thanks, cat mom. I've been looking on the various brand web sites and am really surprised at the dearth of facts on their products. Right now I have a Home Depot solar shade taped up on an east facing window. It has a 15% openness and seems to be vinyl but the label doesn't say. It cuts glare but is extremely unattractive. I don't know whether this is a function of the type of material or the fact that it is just rock bottom inexpensive. Your Hunter Douglas shades sound fabulous so maybe it just depends on the brand selected. When I searched the web for general info nothing much turned up there either. Maybe I'm not using the right search terms. If anyone knows how to search for fact based info on solar shades I'd appreciate your advice. Comments (424)@duffwny - if you really want to see what Cloe tile looks like, I suggest ordering a box from Lowe’s or Amazon (Walmart might also have it - I bought a different color of Cloe tile through Walmart last year because the return policy allowed me to take it back to a brick and mortar Walmart store - even though it was shipped to me directly from Bedrosian). Both have free shipping and free returns. Also, when I purchased it - and placed a bunch of tiles out on my kitchen island, it looked like it had less color variation - but when I took a photo of it with my phone, the variation looked the same as in other photos I’d seen posted on Houzz and on Bedrosian’s IG page. The price of Cloe tile has dramatically increased since I purchased it for my kitchen + bathroom two years ago - I think it was about $6.99 sf! Lowe’s has a 90 day return policy (can return to actual store and save shipping cost): Amazon has free shipping and free returns for 30 days (fyi - I have seen the price fluctuate quite a bit on Amazon): This says ”Free 30 day returns” - but then has 90 days when clicked. When I purcjased, I called and was told I could return to a Walmart store within 90 days....See MoreShade fabric on temporary supports - your experience?
Comments (8)I use shadecloth from Lowes..Sunshade I think. You can buy it by the yard. You can also buy individual pieces packaged. You can get plastic grommets for them that you just push through around the edges which allow you to run a cord through and will keep the shadecloth from ripping over time or in high winds. I sewed a few sections together to get it wide enough for my chicken runs to give them some shade in the summer. I also used shadecloth when I lived in a desert climate for my tropical plants. I just steung it from the edge of the house and put in a few 2x4 posts with screw in eyes to attach the shade cloth. I also had some misters under it..but of course, we dont need those here in FL lol....See MoreUser
