Ceiling fan(s) for screened porch
Comments (5)It can take the edge of the heat, we have one and we used it a few times this summer. If you are having someone else build the porch for you, adding fans is going to cost very little compared to what you are paying for it anyway. I guess if you are doing it all yourself it will be a larger percentage. But generally you can get a good fan for under $200 and it's relatively quick for an electrician to wire it up....See MoreMinka Aire ceiling fans?
Comments (11)Thanks for all the feedback! Did any of you buy the optional wall mount switch for $35? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00803UQ7G I'm thinking this will be necessary in a small room where the fan light is the only ceiling light. Otherwise people will have to hunt for the remote upon entering the room. Any thoughts on this? Thanks! eta: Or do the fans come with a holster so that the remote can be hung on a wall where you would expect a light switch to be? Or do these come with the wall control, and it's the remote that's optional?...See MoreHow much cooling does a ceiling fan provide for sleeping?
Comments (118)Our Minka Aire Concept II 44" fan was installed this week, just in time for our first serious heat wave of the summer. It was 100 degrees yesterday and 83 upstairs at bedtime, a perfect night to sleep in the guest room and try out that baby. I put it on high for about half an hour while I read. It cooled me down instantly, but I didn't want to sleep with it on high because it makes a little wind noise, but less than a table fan. I switched it to whisper-quiet medium for the night. I never felt hot once. Thanks to all the great help on this thread, I got a great fan and a comfortable guest room for summer visitors!...See MoreCeiling fans on a balcony porch
Comments (20)So, an update: we decided to skip the ceiling fans after all. The only ones we liked were about $450 a piece, plus installation, and we'd need at least three. And we'd probably only use them about 15 days a year in this climate. So we're going to get a couple of nice stand fans instead. OTOH...we did wind up with can lights on a dimmer switch. Sigh....See MoreHansen Wholesale
