Advice to refresh our front entrance

Finally ready to do a makeover to our front entrance. The cedar above the front porch always fades from full sun exposure and looks tired. I would like to possibly change it out with something that is low/ no maintenance, possibly some type of shingle. Whatever we do to the front, I would like to carry it through to the back.

I also would like to eliminate many of the posts, preferably just a few to help open it up.

Currently there is porcelain tile. It would be great if there is a product to change the color that would wear well. I’m also open to removing the tile and installing something new. A new door is also a possibility.

All advice is greatly appreciated.

I love a cat slide roof! Because it's the same color as the roof and trim, it sort of disappears. I would stain the cedar white, remove all the posts and replace with a simple 6 x 6 square post, just enough of them to support the roof. You may need to add a header. Replace the tile with a bluestone or slate either real or tile look alike.

Sorry, I just don't see the craftsman style working here, windows OR door. I'm not coming up with a door that would permit you to look outside. I see a solid door or one with two rectangular lights at the top -- you'd have some light, but couldn't see out (and no one could see in). Think twice about hanging shutters too narrow to (visually) completely cover a window. If you are going to paint the door, don't spend a lot on wood good enough to stain.

i see no reason to change the arches. yes, its how houses were built *then* but thats not really a sin. i have arches... do i know they 'dreaded d -word' my vacation house, yes i do. do i care, no i do not. i know for sure that anything built today will be dreaded d word in 15 years, including 'timeless modern farm houses' and 'faux arts n crafts'. i'd spend the time/money on something else.

That space is too small to add much if any items for style without ending up crowding the space. One thought: since you have a wide opening to the living room, you could add a pair of foot deep pony walls that are actually cabinets with solid "invisible" doors (that appear to be wainscoting) within that opening to be used to hang and hide backpacks and shoes.

BTW, you may want to post this in Design Dilemmas too. Lots of folks there are great with color and can do renderings of what could be. I agree, the door isn't quite right which is unfortunate as it looks quite new. Maybe do everything else, then see about the door.
