I know one of mine will be to go fishing when the fish are biting instead of just when I have the time to go fishing.

I started my business when others were retiring. Non of the above applies to me. ♥

Sadly, most of these don’t apply, income decreases, with a teen in the house, expenses don’t. No freedom, no meal deliveries. Worries about health care. Your list sounds wonderful in someone else’s world.

Sorry, but almost none of those. With elder care issues, I have more to deal with now than ever. Especially grumpy today.

Lindsey, I can relate to 1-8, but not 9 or 10. As for #8, I do not sit in the park, but I do sit in my back yard or patio, and that is close enough.

No one cooks for me, and I still cook about two meals a day, for my brother and me. We do have leftovers, but I get creative with those, and so it's not always like cooking new meals, but it still involved cooking. This is by choice, however.

Sadly, I very seldom see my friends, and most of us seem to have grown very far apart. This is where I would disagree the most with your list, and I wish it were not so.

My favorite thing as a retiree is not having to wake up with an alarm clock and hurrying to get ready for work.

Lindsey, I agree with all of your list.

Covid has put the kibosh on visiting with friends and having late into the night card games and stuff ☹️ but hopefully that will be happening again soon. 😀

Retirement has been wonderful! I consider myself fortunate.

I certainly agree about not waking up to the alarm clock. Every morning I think how nice it is to take my time getting up. I think about the people who, under non-COVID times, are working in my old office, having to be there by 8:30. I enjoy taking my time in the morning.

I love what you wrote, Lindsay, and agree for the most part. I don’t live near a park but consider our 9 acres and surrounding areas my ‘park’. We can’t get any food deliveries which is a bummer but I can get curbside pickup which is great. And I don’t get to see my friends as often as we would like either. Maybe soon since we are all getting the vaccine.

I like not having a daily alarm though it was for insurance, I usually woke in time on my own and do the same at around the same time now. The rest doesn't much apply to me. I enjoyed my career and my life during my working years, especially with everything involved during the "raising kids" period. I miss all of it. I'm enjoying retirement too. For me, change is change, neither good nor bad.

Kierkegaard said that some people think that the end and aim of life is work, and he describes these people as the most tedious in his "Either/Or." He also says that he believes instead that the end and aim of life is to enjoy oneself. My sister and BIL both fall into the work category, and my sister is still working full time at 72. My BIL had to retire at 84 because he was coming down with Alzheimer's.

For Kierkegaard change is what prevents people from becoming boring, and he believed that boredom was the root of all evil. He also said that there were two types of people: those who bore themselves and those who bore others. He considered those who bore themselves to be the elite, and that these people often entertained others, whereas those who bore others are the common mass of people.

In enjoyed my work and miss parts of it but not all of it. I would like to be able to do some freelance work at this stage of my life, but nothing too structured. My brother would like to retire so that he could spend more of his time painting, but that will have to wait for a few years - until he can qualify for Medicare.
