Having read some of the comments above I am horrified. Someone commented about putting this nesting house on their patio. A mother hummingbird will abandon the nest, even with eggs or hatched eggs, if frightened by someone coming too close. I also saw someone say to offer pet hair. That should only be done if the pet hasn't been treated with flea and tick spray or shampoo. Yarn shouldn't be offered either as many birds have lost feet and legs due to being tangled in it. On another site I saw someone say to offer dryer lint. That is one of the worst things to offer. Dryer lint has no structure and will fall apart once it's been wet and then dries, plus it will grow mold and has chemicals in it from soap and softener. All of these quick cute make a buck ideas are for humans not hummingbirds. The only safe thing to offer them is cotton balls that they can pull tiny bits from to line nests. All the rest should be kept away from them.

I have different birds then you. I have Ann's year round. Right now I have a bunch of boys, no nesting likely with this crew. Last year I had a yard full of babies. How can I have all these babies and not adults? I thought maybe I was stealing the neighborhood babies because of my feeders. I found an old log of 'Lady in the Lamp'. This bird had several broods a summer in a lamp. The condition of the nest would be good since it was well sheltered and so she reused it again and again. It dawned on me that I had returning Mom's last year that probable had multiple broods and everyone stuck around for the summer. All those babies were mine! I just bought a couple more feeders as I am hoping for a crowd this spring. I have no hope of ever finding a nest. I saw one in a garden center at Home Depot. It had caution tape wrapped around the bush is the only reason I saw it. The nest was a tiny little bag thrown over a limb. Mom carefully came in the back way. I am content to see the babies come to the feeders. The wild tail contortions it takes them to navigate tells me how new to the wing they are. Here is a link that might be useful: Lady of the lamp.

I HAVE BABIES! I just got back a few minutes ago from being gone several days. Went right out to check the box, and just as I got there mom came flying up. My heart leapt! I peeked in very quickly, just long enough to see some fluff; didn't want to take the time to count. (It's a deep nest and I have to use a little dental mirror to even see down inside it.) Birds have no way of transporting their eggs...with the possible exception of some ground nesting birds. Either the eggs hatched or something got at them.
