I don't think panels are the right treatment for a beach house. Simple is better. I would do solar shades on all the windows and sliders with a wood cornice to hide the rollers. Leave the oval, etc unadorned. Add blue accessories. Change the cushions on the rattan chairs to blue. Something like this roller solar shades instead of pleated. My personal preference is white or pastel colored vertical vinyl blinds for sliding glass patio doors -- but I'm usually in the minority here on Houzz with that. You can even get them for windows

Have you considered removing the fabric and leaving the blinds? You could build a wood cornice painted white or the same color as your walls instead of fabric.

Thank you all. Yes, I love the idea of the wood cornice, had thought of that but was concerned the verticals would be too obvious. How about a white textured cloth shade rather than a solar shade??? Any suggestions on bar stools? Will definitely change seat cushions at table.

In summer on our west exposure, the exteriors make the rooms cooler, but that's up to you. Could save a little money too.

Rattan/ grass chairs seem wonderful ... add items of a new type, "sold currently," and other furniture will look a bit better I think.

Time to start from scratch. Not one of those window coverings is worth working around. I think you need a MUCH simpler solution that unifies all the spaces, but since light control is your top concern, a two-pronged approach might work best, e.g.:

• light-to-medium-weight fabric panels, perhaps layered over woven shades, on the inside
• awnings (or maybe even Bermuda shutters) on the outside

Another unobtrusive, “invisible“ way to handle the heat and glare would be to have a U.V.-blocking film like VistaTint applied to the windows.

I like Sammy's idea of covering the arched portions of the windows - wouldn't see the top of the utility pole which is quite distracting.
