Trim & Ceiling Paint Color vis-a-vis Cabinet Paint Color
Comments (10)Hi jmcgowan, Can't wait to see your F&B Pointing painted cabinets. Pointing was one of our top choices -- such a beautiful color! Our kitchen isn't that big by kitchen standards these days (it is 274 square feet). So the calm continuity of the same color on cabinets and trim works well in our ''smaller'' space. In general, however, I do like the play of different shades of white layered together in a room. So I certainly don't think there is anything wrong with picking a different white for the trim. In some cases it might add the depth or slight contrast that the room needs. My sense from your drawing is that your kitchen is quite a bit larger; perhaps that is why your architect thinks that in your space having different trim and cabinet colors will work well. I'd encourage him to tell you a bit more about his thinking on this. Again, he may well be right. In any case, once your cabinets are installed, if you decide you want to match (or not match) you can make that decision at that time. As for the counters, we had some rough ideas about what our counter top colors/material might be before we ordered the paint color for our cabinets; but we didn't know for sure. That was a bit of a gamble....See MorePaint color that looks good w/Honey Oak Trim
Comments (3)Most people suggest colors in the green family which is nice but I'm a big fan of sunflowers and decided to use a soft yellow instead. We put it in both our kitchen and breakfast area and like it alot! Not only does it give the kitchen and dining area a very warm and cozy feel and it also has a very pretty glow when the sun is shining in! Not to mention it matches our honey oak cabinets perfectly!...See MoreDoes anyone have one room painted a different color?
Comments (15)My house is old and tired and trying to be eclectic as I pump life-fluid into it. After living nearly 30 years in various military housing, dorms, barracks, etc., and drowning in shades of "off white," I was ready for C-O-L-O-R when we bought this place. My sewing room/ladies parlor is "Lilac Vapor," a magical shade of lilac. Our office/den/DH's dressing room is Picnic Table red for the bottom 3/4s of the walls, and camel on the upper quarter of the walls and ceiling. The bathroom is stark black and white with touches of deep, blood red. The bedroom is a lighter green, "Safari," and the mudroom is yellow. The living room and breakfast nook will be a sage green, "Key Lime Pie," and the kitchen and hall way (all open to one another) will be a 50% lighter version of the same green. All these rooms have, or will have, lovely crown molding with larger, detailed corner blocks. All the molding, baseboard and trim is white or off white. The bathroom crown molding will be black. DH is in charge of the four seasons porch. I'm sure it will be various shades of brown, barnwood paneling up to the chair rail, and sprinkled with camo. The room has 10 large windows, facing north, south, and west, and a door, so even the brown won't be overwhelming. He does have a good sense of style, just no color sense....See MoreMatch cabinet paint color to trim? W/ glaze? No help in Paint Forum
Comments (9)Thanks for the input everyone! We would be doing a similar shade in cabinet paint to the trim paint--both would be shade of white. The trim will be a SW Linen White to match the interior windows--this is not a standard color they carry, it is apparently a special formula they make for Pella (the interior of the windows were pre-painted at the Pella factory). There will be at least 2 places in the kitchen/breakfast/great room area where trim and cabinet would be right against each other, and probably a similar amount of spots in each bathroom. So, I'm thinking from your responses and, given my answers to your questions, I probably should try to match the trim and cabinets--if we do an off-white shade on the cabinet. ontariomom, it's interesting that you feel glaze is not as timeless--I've thought the same thing about the gray, beige, green, etc. painted cabinets that seem so popular right now. My husband and I both really love the weathered or aged look that glaze provides. We did it in our last remodel and were very happy. However, I've heard others in addition to you mention that they feel glaze is not classic or is "out." So, I'm going back and forth on doing what we love (glaze) with chance it may look dated relatively soon, trying a painted "color" cabinet such as light gray or beige, or doing a painted off-white cabinet with no glaze. tcufrog, I'm trying to work with the cabinetmaker to get sample boards, so hopefully that will help the decision!...See MoreQuentin Parker
