There's a product called Gelstain if you want to stain a darker color, or you could paint. I've done both, and can't say if one is easier than the other, but staining is a bit messier and you need to wear gloves. If you can make *that* decision, that's half the battle.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to let Tim look at them and see what he wants. These are for a trail run we are putting together as a fund raiser for our Civitan club. There will be a 5K, 10K, and half marathon with men's and women's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. We had wanted to do a quilt for 1st place in each race, but no way I can get 6 done by Oct 20th. If I have 2 we can use them for 1st place in the half marathon and perhaps table runners for the shorter ones. If I get 3 done, perhaps just a drawing from the entrants for each race. beverly

Thanks everyone for your comments. I don't know if you can see it, but the green square between the two windows in the FR is a sample of BM Baby Turtle. That's the color I was thinking about painting that wall. I agree that painting the entertainment unit would breakup the Knotty pine overload! I was thinking about maybe starting off with putting a paintable wallpaper on the back wall of the bookcase and seeing how it looked with that painted first - maybe do the Baby Turtle on the back of the bookcase, and the white on the shelves. I was thinking about painting the trim white, but thought it might look stark with all the paneling. The fireplace is very tall. I'm 5'4" tall and when I stand on the hearth, I can barely reach the top of the mantle. To put that flower arrangement up there I had to stand on my tippy toes to just reach enough to place it up there. So, to watch TV up there is impossible. The room isn't that large. We struggled with the furniture placement for hours, but with the wall of windows and the builtin, I'm sortof stuck with where things are. I figure you can sit up on the sunroom chairs to admire the fireplace this winter.

Patricia, I started a before and after thread, but hoped you might see I took your suggestions and ran with it! The only thing I haven't changed is the mirror, but I'm ok with it for the time being, I was more inspired to just get rid of the picture frames, vases, etc. The stems in the vase are not real, but it is a simply beautiful collection of greens and whites that I just can't stop looking at!
