Flooring stain match, tinting with Bona Nordic Seal?

Hello,

I have 30 year old existing wide plank ponderosa pine floors. I'm seeking to refinish the existing wood, and patch an area where tile existed previously. I've sourced ponderosa pine planks from the same mill, however the tone of the wood is obviously a bit different. I'm planning to refinish the entire room using Bona Nordic Seal and Bona Mega One. You can see the sample image below of 2 coats Bona Nordic applied to both the new and existing floor samples.

The newer sample is lighter and slightly yellower in tone. Is it possible to do a custom tint or stain on the newer wood to bring it closer to the existing? Bona Corporate recommended tinting Bona Nordic Seal with TransTint, or applying a white stain to both first.

Any other suggestions? Replacing the tile with new tile is not an option due to the new room layout.

Try one coat of Intenseal and one or two coats of NordicSeal over the new to see if, it is a better match, before messing around with Transtint. Dyes are very potent.

Pine likes to darken as it ages. This variation is to be expected. We won't know if they match for a few months or years.

This is a newly installed floor. I no longer trust my installer, so I stopped the work and I am now trying sealers on my own. I only sanded the floor unprofessionally, with a small hand machine and a sanding paper, but those marks were not there before, they appeared after I applied the sealer and they go away easily with further light sanding. I never checked humidity, and neither did my installer. But I keep the AC on all the time and the floor is now about 1 month old. have your flooring person sand one area, and then apply sample swatches of the products you're thinking of. view them during different times of day as the lighting changes. once you picked a product, it'll be easy to sand that sample patch down again to get it ready for the whole job. (just be sure it's the kind of floor that can withstand multiple sandings.)

Anyone done Bona NordicSeal on Hickory?

"Mill run" would generally mean "anything goes" for flooring. Hickory won't look too much different from White Oak but I would have a concern about dark streaks showing inconsistencies in the NordicSeal. Today I came across a picture where someone put Naturalseal over a stained floor and it ended up uneven and cloudy in spots. I recommend you inquire more completely about the grade of flooring. If you're seeking a muted Scandinavian look you should consider select Hickory.

Agree with Verbo, you won’t get a match with different woods. White oak is more “neutral” while red oak is pink/orange. The best plan would be to find white oak treads. You could try bleaching the red oak, but that would also be tough to match. Since you already own the red oak, I would give it a try. I would suggest finding a flooring contractor who is experienced doing this.
