Master Bedroom as "Temptation Island"?
Comments (62)What fun reading this thread, lots of giggles. So far, I like what you've chosen the best. I would also suggest a throw for an arm chair to keep handy for a quick lie down without messing the bed. A fake fur would add texture which you need for that sensual feeling. Here's an example of one on Overstock below It even comes in a purple tone. For good quality and low prices, go to 55 Downing Street. My niece just did her whole condo with items from that site and it came out gorgeous. I have a similar decor as what you're choosing and I put in white carpeting as the room is huge and I wanted a warm feeling. If you're going for an area rug under the bed then you can put down a random shaped fake fur rug in white to add more texture plus they feel so good to step on with bare feet, lol...See MoreTook The Fake Stone Off Our Fireplace..
Comments (52)Beverly, I love the colors, but not sure of the scene. I'm also looking at light greens, or dark blues with yellows (but that could be because of my love of Starry Night on the Rhone) Ingrid- I'm not a fan of realism at all. Most of it is too old fashioned for me. But, it's interesting you put the ones I posted into that category. Just goes to show how we all see art differently. Also what makes it so interesting. But that's neither here nor there. Art is definitely very personal, and no one's ever going to agree on everything, so for now, I'm looking at colors. After that's decided, I'll look at the art. Thanks again for all your opinions and links. Will post a pic of the room when I'm finally done....See MoreWhat says "Elegant Bedroom" to you?
Comments (67)What a feast of a thread. Ida Claire, I've never been a "brown" person at all, but in an orgy of trying to finish our build cheaply and making hurried choices, I ended up with a bedroom accidentally painted a light taupe with medium brownish-taupe tight-weave indoor-outdoor carpeting ($1/yard!, but just temporary--5 years ago). I like bedrooms that are at their best at night, but live in a hot climate that makes white especially refreshing. In any case, the room's a calm harmonious scheme of taupe, cream, white and brown, with a couple antiques of a rich dark wood. Other muted colors are added in art, lamps, etc. It's coming along slowly since I'm never in there during the day. What I wanted to say was that it recently got a great leap forward by an old oil painting I purchased at an auction. An oceanscape, I wasn't all that enthused at the auction, where it was badly lit, but it was fairly large :) and had a nice old gold frame, and nobody else bid on it. Got it home in place, and I absolutely love it. It has the colors of the room, some darker, some blues, greens, waves breaking on rocks with the earliest sunlight barely, barely breaking from the left. I put a lamp on the dresser to light it from that side, and it glows gently. In any case, the oils and frame give a richness and texture, the quality and the way it settles in to a room that was waiting for it elegance, and the scene a quiet vitality and movement. Hadn't realized my bedroom would benefit from that last, but it really does. Depth, too....See MoreRecommendations for a Rustic designer in the Denver Metro area
Comments (31)I agree with the location of the dog shower being suboptimal. It's in the front of the house and near the clothes / coats. Where will you store the shampoo and the towles required to dry them off? What about the hair that gets produced in the washing and rub down process - how much of that ends up on the clothes? and the humidity - you need a fan in there. It's way more normal to have a functional laundry room with a sink/ shower, etc. You will now be carrying dirty / hairy dog towels through the foyer kitchen, master bedroom and bathroom to get to the washer. (honestly at this point it might be cleaner to bring the dogs into your master shower! I do that sometimes!) I totally get wanting to have a dog shower (have one) I totally don't get having it where it is and so far away from where the accompanying items need to go / end up. I would also rethink the master sinks. No space that is usable for any kind of normal bathroom grooming. And dead space behind them. Depending on how deep that is, finding counter material could be challenging as well! I don't have an issue with your master shower - mine will be 7x5. I do think you should have 2 shower heads in that space. Make sure you work with the bank (assuming you are getting a construction loan) on a 2 bedroom house. Not sure about your area, but they are hard to finance here, and I expect would be even harder with a self build. Trying to do a self build with a bank is tricky - make sure you have that nailed down. If you are paying 100% out of pocket - then never mind! (and good for you!) You need a interior designer for this if you are this far along with the plans - you should be able to find someone who simply works by the hour....See Morejalarse
