All Black or Black Accent Wall? Experiment Done
Comments (27)Lisa Mocha I do like the idea of a wainxcotting! I wonder if I could talk DH into spending the money. My dad could do it. If I did I would want it to match the vestibule paneling though I a fear that would be both tima and labor intensive as well as $$$$$$$$$$$. I'm going to ask my dad how cheaply he could do it. Done right I think it would add great value to the house. Vestibule paneling: There is very minimal wall on the other 3 walls. Mostly windows and then the wide opening. The colors are as follows: Office: Sherwin Williams High Reflectance white. Very bright, stark white (but not cold white). I think it could be hard to live w/ if I didn't have the walls covered in so many pictures. Office Ceiling: undetermined Center Hall: Walls: Benjamin Moore Ivory Porcelain CC 239 Flat Ceiling: Sherwin Williams Caviar 6990 from the Essantials line. Both Flat. LR test wall: Sherwin Williams Sealskin 7675 from Concepts in Color. Since it is only a Color To Go sample it is a satin finish I believe. There are a multitude of whites floating around on the other walls. Ceiling is undetermined but the color that you see in the picture is BM San Antonio Gray. I have a conference to go to today and grocery shopping after but I'm crossing my fingers that I can do the next wall tonight. Tomorrow at the latest then show you. Have a good day!...See MoreSaddle Color Leather Furniture
Comments (25)I have the same color furniture, and have moved twice, struggling with wall color each time. Now I'm facing a third move, and thinking of not going with either of the previous colors. I think toooooo much. The first house was very large and totally open - lots of natural light from every direction. I ultimately chose Lowes Fairmont Suite Gold. I liked it, and got lots of compliments. The window treatments were hard though, because brown didn't do it, gold was too much, red was wrong .... finally I went to a quilting shop and found a paisley that was called chocolate but was really a black background with gold and about 4 shades of warm browns, one of which was identical to the leather furniture. It also has the tiniest amount of dark olive green in it. I used black drapes and made swags from this fabric, as well as throw pillows. Then I moved and the furniture found itself in a much smaller room, closed off, but with super high ceilings that made the room not feel as tiny as it is. I went with my favorite dark olive green .... which I cannot for the life of me recall the name of now. Ugh. Looks great! Now I'm moving to a small townhouse, decent natural light but the views aren't so nice - the parking lot in the front and the back of the row of townhouses on the next street - most of which have heavily toy-littered yards. I will definitely be using some full sheers to block the less than pleasant view. The lr color will need to flow up the stairs and in to the hall, so I'm not liking the dark green. The gold I used previously feels too intense for the space. I'm strongly considering finding a much lighter gold ... but that's hard because it seems the lighter you go on the card, the more yellow pops out. I like gold; I do not like yellow. I suspect I'll end up with a golden tan as opposed to a gold. BTW, I'm still using the same fabric that I bought for the first house and it looks just as good with the green as it did with the dark gold. I know for economy's sake I should take it to house #3 and yes, I do like it, but I'm also getting a little burned out on it. Please let me know what you choose to go with. It's always nice to get real home photo inspirations as opposed to magazines and professionally staged photos....See MoreCounter advice - Cold Spring or Black Pearl Leathered
Comments (14)Thanks for the advice but thanks even more to all the people that take time to share their experiences. I have never used a forum before and I actually think you've saved my sanity. I had never heard of OTK before but once I read about it I realized that I was having trouble picking granite because yes, it was beautiful, but it wasn't what I had ever envisioned as MY kitchen. So I went out and found a beautiful slab of Calacatta marble for my island. I LOVE it. To me, it looks like a watercolor painting. I couldn't be more pleased and excited. So now I have a island counter top. Looking for ideas for perimeter counters to coordinate with the Calacatta. This picture was very difficult to take as I was wedged between the blocks of marble so colour is off. Really not that blue. Just beautiful white, grey and taupe veining. Thinking Cambrian Black leathered. Any other suggestions? Also, need to pick hardwood floors. Pre-finished or site finished? Thinking medium toned oak. Is it worth the agg (sanding, fumes, out of house for a few days) for the non beveled result. Prefer no bevels but DH wants prefinished although only $900 difference in price between the two. Cabinets are BM White Dove!...See MoreAdobe on side and cocktail table and rug for blue leather sofa.
Comments (13)I know that sofa -- we looked at it when we were looking with our son for his new apartment. It is a pretty blue and would go well with silvers and greys -- in the right space. If you could start over with your paint and do a darker or lighter floor with more red, grey or black in it, that would bee a great way to go. Since you don't plan to paint and i know the floors aren't going to change any time soon, work with what you have. You still have lots of options, and they may be ones you will like better over the long haul. While you have warmer, more golden tones in your home, it is still very neutral from what you've shown. Do you have other furniture for the adjoining rooms, chairs, pillows or other things you plan to be using -- in this room or adjoining rooms? If not, then you need to have an idea for other colors, feel, etc to set the tone. That sofa can go in a number of directions. I was looking for some ideas for you last night and wasn't able to finish. I know that sofa -- we looked at it when we were looking with our son for his new apartment. I was looking for some ideas for you last night and wasn't able to finish. I looked at another site without finding anything I really liked and then went to Pottery Barn. Take a look there and see if you find inspiration -- and even better, look at a store to see how the colors look in person. Depending on the direction you want to take the room, I could see using about half of their rugs. Teagan in grey multi looks like it might be a warm grey or blend of beige and greys that could work and might be close to what you were imagining in color at least. If you did something like that rug, I'd look to warm metals (copper, brushed or aged brass) or a dark wood -- cherry, espresso or similar. When we first saw that sofa, they had it displayed with a round hammered coffee table. I've seen similar tables with a smaller one that nests underneath. A marble top with a wood or metal base (again, not a bright silver or brass -- maybe grey or an aged natural metal color). Nolan in the neutral color looks like it has beige and grey as well as some blue. It would at least compliment the blue if that is all grey -- and it would mix in the warmer tones you already have in the house. This one might bee my favorite of what I looked at last night. Similar ideas for coffee tables, but I could also see a mid tone wood with a bluestone or similar top. Right next to the Nolan on my screen is Channing -- a red background Persian style that would take the sofa in another direction -- more traditional, very warm. Overstock and erugs are other places to look, but sometimes starting with a fewer number can give you a direction without overwhelming you. You might also look for photos of living rooms with blue sofas and see if you can find a look with similar floor and wall colors that appeals to you and take a cue from that....See MoreJennifer Svensson
