Affordable 15' wine/beverage cooler?
Comments (1)I just bought a 15' U-line stand-alone wine storage unit for $1633. That isn't exactly budget, I know; my DH is really into wine and we needed very good storage and also required a very quiet unit. I'm posting a link to a U-line 15' fridge (NOT wine storage) that might be in your price range ($969). You might be able to find one for less online, or call around to local retailers to see if they have a floor model they could sell you. Good luck! Here is a link that might be useful: Abt Link to 15...See MoreBeverage Cooler for Wine and Beer/Sodas?
Comments (10)Mine was installed in May of last year, and we're very happy with it. We shopped for it for several months until we finally chose this one. It had *just* come out, lucky for us. The only thing I wish was different was that the beer zone was about a 1/2" taller...if it were we'd have more options for configuring the adjustable shelf in that zone. Aren't appliance salesmen the best? Our salesmen told us we were stupid for wanting a 2-zone wine fridge! He said it was best to use a 1-zone and follow the rule of 20: Chill whites for 20 minutes in your regular fridge before drinking, and put the red on the counter for 20 minutes brfore drinking. 20 Minutes?? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of a wine fridge for the typical consumer? Sure if I were a connessoir and was stashing valuable bottles in there, but my two-buck chuck isn't worth waiting 20 minutes for. Anyway... The LCD temperature display isn't a setting, it's a real time temperature. When you adjust the temperature setting, it takes a little while for the dislayed temp to change. The LCD temperature reading for the beer section is dead on. I measured it with a thermometer to be sure it was food safe. I didn't measure the other two zones, but I have no reason to believe those temps are off. The white wine is chilled but not overly so like you get from storing it in the fridge. The red wine is cool to the touch, but not cold enough to get a mist of condensation on your glass. We're not wine collectors though. We just enjoy drinking wine. For the most part, our fridge holds a selection of...See MoreBuilt in beverage coolers/wine fridge pricing.
Comments (2)I'm starting to do my research and it seems like the $700 fridge has good reviews, but some people were posting about the noise. We are usually watching tv or cooking and I didn't think a little noise would be a problem....See MoreUndercounter beverage cooler - worth it?
Comments (23)We have the u-line undercounter built in bev fridge with glass door and trim that matches our white kitchen cabinets. According to the thermometer I tested it with in a glass of water it goes down to 37 degrees. We don't have a real fridge yet so we have food in it and it keeps well. When we get the real refrigerator it will be the big Samsung regular depth with ice and water in the door (DH loves crushed ice) but I'm so looking forward to having all the drink traffic in a separate area of the kitchen and having my real refrigerator uncluttered with drinks. The bev fridge will have wine (2 racks), beer, orange crush (a treat for when the grown children visit) and probably some bottled water for occasional use. I'm also very happy with how it looks and, as someone said earlier, it breaks up the run of white so it adds visual interest. The only thing I don't like is that the shelves are not adjustable so really tall things don't fit upright. Once that bottle of wine is open it either must go in the main fridge or we'll need to finish it. Off hand I'd say we'll probably finish what we start. Just as a side note---our 3 children are all grown up and we endured many "3-headed looks" b/c our bev choices for all children were milk or water (and that meant tap water). We also didn't keep salt or sugar snacks stocked in the house (making popcorn was an activity and so was peeling fruit). Sometimes our children also complained that "everyone else" had all the snacks and drinks we didn't but now we see them making healthy choices in their own lives and we're glad we didn't relent when they complained....See MoreM
