Sounds like a lot of things for the space. Question: Is the living room used regularly? I know people often rarely use their living room when they have a family room. You could consider doing what a neighbor of mine did, turned their little used living room into a dining room. Perhaps open up passage way from kitchen next to powder room? Just a random thought....

You need 3' around a table for chairs and walkway. Select a round table that expands.

Change the swing of the powder room door, so that the person in the kitchen never has a view of the toilet. Do you have a peninsula with chairs in your kitchen?

Your current traffic paths through your house are causing you problems. Here's how they look now. People crossing the middle of the family room/living room to pass through. The pathway from the door through the dining room effectively reduces its size too. I'd close that door off to help traffic through the dining room. Optionally, I'd also open the space by the basement steps to the living room, and move the doorway between the living and dining rooms.

it's a good idea, but we actually do use it. 5 people, small house, we use all the space! We've got to solve with the space we have for dining right now. We can give on the buffet, but a table and a piece of furniture to be used as a pantry is a must. And we will want the pantry to be visually pleasing, so likely repurposing some type of closed-door trendy shelving unit. That I am confident we have room for, it's just all about the size/shape of the table. Thank you!!
