Large Niche Just Put above tub - need ideas
Comments (3)THank you so much for the idea. I am hopeful what I have will be ok. Mine is TALL - like 48 inches but only 5 inches deep and about 35 wide. I was thinking of bisecting the unit with beadboard (it goes around the bathroom at a 4 foot height) a nd sitting a shelf on this beadboard lip. Thus kind of dividing the niche in half with a shelf. Above it - maybe a mirror, print or towel bar? I think the top half is where I am stuck...Any more pics?? thanks!...See MoreAdvice for decorating large, very tall wall with niches in family room
Comments (8)Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I've considered closing the niche above the fireplace, but that will leave only 6" on the mantle which isn't much space for decor. I agree that it would allow more options for art up above. I do have a large chest to the left of the fireplace right now. The trouble with that is there is little space for traffic between it and the end of the sectional. If I shift it left, it looks off balance and is facing a direct walking path. And I don't really want to rotate the sectional against the windows although that would improve the narrow traffic problem. All the above pics were taken after the wood floor was refinished, but before I put any accessories, decor, etc. back up. I wanted to show a "blank slate". (I am working on getting an area rug) If I stick with everyone's suggestions, my next questions are: How high up should I try to decorate the fireplace niche? And should I do anything behind the tv? I've had nothing there and it looks blank, and I've put up a very large piece of art and it looks too busy. It seems like there are too many focal points. Here are some pics that show earlier attempts at decorating. The silver vase with floral is probably close to 48" high. Please ignore the floral behind the tv, that is not normally there. Pic #1 was right before they moved the furniture out for the flooring, so all my extras were already in storage....See MoreNeed ideas for ledge and large tall wall in LR/Entryway
Comments (8)If you enclose the plant shelf over the entry, that might be a good place to store seasonal decorations I don't think the church pew meets the needs of the entry so I am suggesting a cabinet for storage, a Mirror, and hat racks in place of the hooks and shelf. IMO the chandelier is way too small for the area and should probably be swagged to a better location.to the right of the front door....See MoreNeed help decorating large niche above fireplace
Comments (3)It does look a bit bare with just the clock, but that's an easy fix! Adding in some candle sticks on one side, maybe a small framed artwork or two, and even a plant would really help add depth and interest. You can overlap things of different sizes as well. Just make sure to leave a bit of empty space in there if you're setting various things on the ledge, as it may start feeling overcrowded. Here's an example of layering done really well. See how it feels even, but it's got lots of interest? That's the idea!...See Moremarys235
