Nicolas, that is not so much a retaining wall in your picture as it is a rock garden. It is done, I would guess, by simply laying the rocks onto the dirt slope, starting at the bottom, and maybe adding soil to the pockets between the rocks once it is done. Each rock is supported in part by the rocks below, of course, but is mostly supported by the dirt under it. That is easy to do (other than the physical task of moving the rocks) as the rocks are laid right on dirt. As to whether you have a safety issue, I think it depends on several factors, including how steep it is, and whether you can see that the slope is coming as you approach it or whether it catches you by surprise like the edge of a cliff. It is probable, however, that you do not want your child to tumble down it. Children have grown up around dangerous things since time immemorial of course, and as long as their parents were vigilant and instructed them properly, they have survived. Another approach is to put a fence or other barrier of some sort across the top. But by all means post photos - it would help to ensure that the information you receive here is relevant.

We also have Blue Granite PS. So far, it hasn't seemed too rough. As for the color, ours is still turning bluer. We have had water in the pool for approximately 6 weeks. It started out very green and has slowly been changing to the blue that we were expecting. From what I have heard, the kind of water you use to put in your pool will definitely affect the color also.

I just got the Taurus 3 for Christmas, and I can't wait to settle in with the DVD and some glass. I had to finish some gifts for a party last night, and I worked today and again tomorrow. I think Monday will be dedicated to my new T3. In some ways it's killing me not to have it fired up, but it's also like a delicious secret that I'm savoring. (Weird, I know)

Yes, we plan to have a closet/utilize the space under the stairs leading up to the 2nd floor (this closet accessible via the study). No closet under the stairs that lead down into the basement currently. Can you fit a closet in this one? Only concern is this is the only real wall in the great room. Unfortunately we need all 3 spaces - formal dining (now serving as main eating area), study, and guest bedroom. I don't want books/computers/laptops/electronics in the dining room. I play the cello - need separate music space/area, so I'm combining music area (place store music books, cello, music stand) with a small desk/books located in the study. Both in-laws live out of state (as do most siblings) and for various reasons, we've had family stay with us for extended periods of time (i.e. months), so don't want to go into guest bedroom to access my computer, electronics, pay bills, etc. Live in northeast OH, so mudroom area/place for coats is essential. benjesbride - That floor plan you sent is almost identical to ours! Only difference is the right side of the house continues to come forward, ours doesn't - ours has to recede due to lot restrictions. If it helps, here's the topo (house on the pie shaped lot)
