Anyone with Alabama White marble? Backsplash question
Comments (15)Yes, it is a low divide sink by Kohler. It is the even divide, but they have one that has one side larger and smaller. I am just used to the even divide and like it so I was glad it came like this. I got it from Faucet Direct - they seemed to have the best price. We did Ticor sinks in the bar and basement and they are excellent quality, but they didn't have the squared corner raidus ones in the equal divide like I wanted. And yes, those are french doors, sort of. Two go into a study and the other two are in the dining room (there are two more on the other wall of the dining room). They are actually sidelights mulled together and don't open (we wouldn't open them anyway because of furniture placement and the fact that the study is very small) and it was MUCH cheaper (like almost 20k cheaper) to do them like that since we have 6 of them. They turned out great in person though, so that is one area where our window guy steered us right! Here it is from the inside - paint color isn't right but you get the idea!...See MoreAnyone with a 2 inch backsplash or no backsplash?
Comments (21)Hi. We installed out kitchen in 2012. We still haven't chosen or decided on a backslpash - it's the painted wall. I have a creamy Egyptian marble, - don't remember the name. I like unstructured European vintage-y kitchens. Many of them don't have backsplashes either. My stainless range has a stainless backsplash directly behind it. I had picked out some mini-clear glass subway tile for the backsplash that coincidentally matches my Prescott Green paint color perfectly but what if I decide to change wall color one day? Just this week I started thinking maybe I made my backsplash tile decision three years ago which was to have none. Our marble installers tried very hard to discourage us from marble in the kitchen but I have not regretted it. All those kitchens in southern Europe can't be wrong. FYI - If you are considering glass backsplash look at a product call 3-Form it comes in an amazing variety of colors, textures and imbedded items, two good friends used it in their kitchens. http://www.3-form.com/ Do what speaks to you in your home. Comments (4)Hi. I was hoping someone would have shared some limestone backsplashes by now because all I have is a limestone bathroom (limestone cave). It's A LOT of limestone. It's my daughter's bathroom but the tile installer designed/pressured me into it when I was having a I-can't-pick-tile meltdown.... It's in tumbled limestone in the lighter/creamy shade: The lighting is terrible in every shot I have.....it's making the grout look gray but it's actually alabaster in person. Hope this helps!...See MoreHave you ever painted your backsplash?
Comments (23)Don't paint! I know everyone's computer monitor shows colours differently, and I find it's really really hard to capture all the nuances of stone in a photo. But, I quite like your backsplash, and I have to be honest, I've seen more I don't like here, than ones I do. I'm wondering if a grout in a grey tone would help? A tiler who has given me great advice says he never does a job without doing a sample board and getting approval of grout colour first. He says that previously most of the jobs that customers did't like were because of grout colour. My very first reaction was 'why would she keep those old outlets. Not only the plates need to be replaced, but I would strongly recommend updating the actual plugs/light switches. Even if the colour matched your trim it would look nicer than that very out-dated ivory. I am not a colour expert, but my BM lady is. If I were you, I would take samples to a reputable paint shop and to someone who knows how colours work. Mine was able to explain how certain tones of paint work better with my granite. To the naked eye they looked very similar, but having a red or a yellow undertone completely changed how well they went. Even though they don't 'do grout', someone there may help you pick a good grout colour if you could bring in samples. Did I mention..."Don't Paint"!?!...See MoreLeslie Laws
