Well, I have a Hobson's choice! There was some tinkering with my computer and my login info to the Kitchen Table was deleted and now I can't get back in under my Stacey_mb user name. So either I don't participate on this site at all or, Hobson's choice, I do participate but no choice but to accept the anonymous numbered identity Houzz has assigned to me instead of my own name.

I learned it slightly differently. There were a diversity of beliefs, practices and even written works among early Christian communities and the differences were leading to difficulties and fractious relationships. The purpose of the Council of Nicaea was to try to have some uniformity in dogma, to standardize doctrine and to also choose which written works would be used and which ignored. As a part of that, there was a choosing of what's now called the Canonical Gospels - Mark, Matthew, Luke and John - and the agreement to ignore the others, of which there are many more. There are differences between the canonical and non-canonical gospels, to be sure, and also many unresolved differences among the canonical gospels themselves.

And all this time I thought it was a brand of household soap. Tsk.

Wow did I learn something from this! I always thought "take a powder" was like "take a chill pill" and it referred to snuff or smelling salts or other things they'd use to calm down "hysterical" women in Victorian times. So much for what I know!
