Walpurgis Night

Pronounced vahl –POOR-gis nite, this is the eve of May Day and is the night when witches, warlocks and the like revel in their satanic Sabbath. The name comes from an English saint, Walpurga, who did missionary work in Germany. Her feast day is May Day. There is no evidence that she was ever involved in such sordid goings-on but nonetheless her name survives chiefly though this association.
