It‘s hilarious ... DH saw the neighbor outside last week, and neighbor asks, “Hey, does [cat] still hang out at your house?”

Our neighbor cat used to hang out on our front stoop all the time! We let him in occasionally, just to drive our own indoor cats really crazy. He was so calm. Just walk around, ate a little kibble. We, including our own cats, really miss him since he moved away. Four years ago. Love your pictures of your NOC.

We’re renting for now, and honestly ... the thought of moving away from him makes me choke up. We’ve become so attached to this stripey little fur beast. I can’t fathom being away from him. :(

He is so darn cute! If I were you and moved away I’d take him with me - with or without permission. IMHO he’s being neglected by his current owner and I’d be concerned about his well being if you weren’t there to take care of him. I’d be surprised if they’d stand in your way.

Well, you already know that I simply adore NOC, and so I love seeing photos of him in whatever form they may take. I love these, and think you could start a social media outlet for him entitled "Things Held By NOC" or some such. He must've really been snockered to let you "style" him in so many ways! Probably dreaming of all those wonderful places in HIS house (yep, that means your house) that he's going to explore during his waking hours.

@bpath that cat waiting on your stoop reminds me of the occasional neighborhood child who always wanted to come to my house to play with my kids. You know the type...always asking for snacks, making a bit of a mess with the toys...you have to shoo them home at dinnertime. 😂

Well, I opened your post and had to immediately close it. I lost my Kenzie a few years ago, at age seventeen, the last of my kitties to go, and it was just too painful to see the photo, which looks nearly identical to her. She used to often lay on her back like that with her paws softly curled. But now I've had my coffee and summoned my nerve and I'm so glad I have. What a delightful series of photos. He's a beauty.

So cute! I'm cracking up at the thought of drawers/doors opened! If you move, the kitty would be heartbroken!

Maybe I'm a terrible person (ok, I KNOW I'm a terrible person), but I would truly have no qualms about accidentally-on-purpose packing up NOC and taking him with me if I moved elsewhere. I don't know the neighbors, of course, and while they may be perfectly lovely people, it doesn't look to me like they are THAT concerned about their little boy if they'll just let him go wandering off for many hours at a time.

That's how we got Penny 10-ish years ago. Someone had obviously let her outside at night (where there was a municipal law against letting animals roam) and she followed me home - twice - hungry and desperate for attention. "Come in, little one. You live HERE now." ;-)

Seems to me that NOC has chosen his "staff." LOL

We had a NOC years ago , a long-haired orange tabby (best cat ever) and he would hang out at our place all the time, and like yours he would spend all his time with us and then the sleepovers started. The owners (two doors down from us) came over one day, and there was the cat sleeping in our front entrance. They came over to tell us that they were moving and would we like to keep the cat as he seemed to favour our place. We said yes so fast. The NOC was only two at the time and lived for another 18 wonderful years.

A good friend of mine had a similar The Neighbor's Cat situation. My friend would feed and care for the cat and even took him to the vet when he had a wound from a fight. Your little lush is so cute!

Jinx, you need to ask the neighbor to part with NOC. I think NOC is sure to be in as deep a funk without you as you will be.

A friend of mine got her cat that way. Just saying. The cat was a sweetie and the previous owner didn't miss her. My friend on the other hand loved this cat for 15 years. Got a bath and a blow out once a week-and seemed to enjoy beauty parlor day. My cat would never agree to such things.

He’s one of 5 cats/4 dogs next door, maybe more. We have NOC 2, as well. They both migrated here not long after we moved in (he came months before her). She’s a sassy little girl, a Tortie! She was in bad shape, was so stressed, she excessively cleaned her legs until they were bald.

She‘s shiny and happy now. She steals his blankie. 😄 (He has several others.)

I don’t want to sound down on the neighbors at all, we like them very much. They’re amused by the two-timing cats. 😂 I think Tortie just didn’t want to be around so many other animals, especially big dogs, so she packed up and said bye! Forward my mail!

We've actually gotten 5 cats that way. Penny, of course, but before her came Tiger, Pooh, Molly, and Pip - each of which our previous neighbor brought home from his lake house, thinking they were such cute little kittens. When he realized that yes, you DO have to clean their litterboxes daily, he put them outside and pretty much ignored them. Cat magnets that we are, they instantly showed up on our front porch, and the rest is history. They are all gone now, except for Pooh. He's our elder, at 18-ish years of age. I'm so happy that we were able to give them all long and exceptionally spoiled lives. Jinx, you're doing right by the two NOCs who "own you" too. Bless you real good for that.

I love your story and reading this thread gave me a much needed smile. They are adorable!

Makes me think of a cat I had in Dallas. Beau. I think he was a NOC to my condo neighbors! Sometimes it would start to rain or snow, I’d be calling him and calling him. He’d show up later after the precipitation ended, warm and dry. One day I had let him out, and I went outside too, and went to visit a neighbor on the first floor. As we are chatting in the living room, Beau shows up at their patio door!

The wife had told me that her husband hated cats and she loved them, but he won out so a no-cat household. But every few days, Beau would show up at their patio door, and they’d let him in. He’d make a circuit of the condo, then sit down in the middle of the living room and wait for someone to either pet or feed him. And on cold wet days, he’d hang out till the rain or snow stopped, then come upstairs to me.

The husband actually liked Beau, and said if all cats were a dog like Beau, he’d have a cat. I’m sure he meant it as a compliment lol. The truth is, Beau was a dog in a cat’s body and soul.

But I digress, Beau was a NOC to someone who needed a cat. But he always came home to me.

So I just ordered this print from Etsy, because the cat’s attitude reminds me of my boy.

Then I got to looking closer after I ordered, and googled to verify ... this whale is, um, “excited”. Let’s just call him Woody The Whale.

Darn it! I’m trying to cancel the order. I’m no prude, but geez! It’s really in your face!

DH brought home a catnip-laced cigar from Petco. It even came in a little rounded canister like a real cigar would. Upon taking it out of the canister, however, we realized that it looks very much like a monkey peni$. Lord, lord. What have we given our cats to play with.
