Second guessing countertop choices
Comments (12)Thanks for the help. @artemis_ma, you are right about the color representation...looking at them on this monitor I realize how different the colors can vary. In person, the colors of the two actually have some common ground, the rusty colored areas of the Colonial cream are very much the same as the Golden Crystal. Some of the fabrics I was thinking of using look pretty with both stones. What drew me to the Golden Crystal was that when I first saw it, the overal color seemed browner, or more tan in tone. The Colonial Cream gave a much lighter appearance, but though it looked pretty with creamy white cabinets, I was afraid light floor, light cabinets and light countertops would be too blah. I have lived with cherry (fuschia) laminate for twenty-plus years! LOL! Not really sure what I was thinking...but it was the early 90s and it was different from all the mauve and blue out there. I also never though it would be around this long... Anyway, we start demo this week, and I don't want to make another hot pink countertop mistake! :) I have been lurking for months and love reading all the posts and suggestions. I hope to be able to post pictures as we go along....See MoreSecond guessing granite choice - would love some input
Comments (12)Oh Lord, our floors will be dark too. What am I setting myself up for? :) Honestly, I am a little OCD about these things too. Like it's the little things drive me crazy. I already wipe down the counters multiple times a day so I'm hoping it wont faze me? Granted we currently have a brown stone looking laminate that hides messes pretty well. I have been to my friend's new house maybe three times and never paid any attention to the granite. She says it looks amazing when just cleaned so that is probably why. Her biggest complaint is water marks. Also, I was not kitchen obsessed like I am right now so I guess that has something to do with me not noticing it! Do you think the Black Pearl will disguise spots better than say Absolute Black would? The main area that concerns me is around the sink. Most other messes will probably be made at the island, I think. alley2007 - Thanks for the picture. I do love the contrast, I worry that the white all around will look washed out. We kitchen will be pretty bright, we will have a ton of natural light due to taking down a wall to the living/dining room....See MoreFloor plan second guessing
Comments (9)For the free standing tub - if you lay in it one way, you face the wall right at the end of the tub. If you lay in it the other way, you face the toilet. Neither seems ideal. (I see there's a window maybe next to the tub - is it high or low?) I agree that the kitchen needs work. I can't quite tell what's on the non-sink side of the DW. If it's wall oven/micro, then you really don't have very much storage in the kitchen (if it's a pantry, that's somewhat better.....) but still, it needs help....See MoreAm I The Only One Who Second Guesses Decisions?
Comments (87)Since it was resurrected I might as well give an update! We bought that lot I mentioned a few posts up and built a house during covid ... fun times and higher costs!! Have been in the house for just over a year and 99% happy with all the choices I made. No designer used and I prefer it that way. Jan thought it was a positive that a designer would limit the choices to show a customer, but I consider that a huge negative. Why should I let a stranger select three colors I should pick from, when the colors I really would have loved might have been color 5 or 6. Some Designers also pick based on their personal likes/dislikes or they try new/odd things they would never do in their own homes! I had the time to do the research and make my own selections. I also trust my taste and ability to match colors and patterns....See Morebaileyrules
