Wolf vs Thermador Cooktop w/ Downdraft
Comments (4)I have a Thermador pop-up on a Thermador range. It works surprising well, suction wise, but it does do the awful thing of pulling the gas flame like crazy. The back burners are almost useless when the thing is on, but then when you use the front burners, they are too far away to capture the smoke/odors/grease/whatever very well. I think it helps avoid setting the smoke alarm off sometimes, but that's about it. The other problem we have had is that the arm mechanism on the Thermador broke, and they apparently stopped making replacement parts for it (even though it is only eight years old). So now I can't get it fixed. That means it is stuck in a permanent up position!! Terribly annoying....See MoreAdvice Needed - Put a 36' cooktop in an island with a downdraft?
Comments (5)First which is more important, stove top or oven cooking? If you do more of one than the other, that is were you should concentrate on the best scenerio. Second, from what you have posted, it appears you cannot vent outside. If this is correct then consider an induction cooktop. It is more efficient than traditional electric and gas. It is faster than gas but doesn't radiate heat around your pan. You pan IS the heat source, so you are not venting out as much heat as you would with either of the other two stove tops. Electrolux, Bosch and Diva have great 30" tops with good size burners. Most of the other brands offer a good selection in 36". Downdraft ventillation is better than nothing, but you fight science. Heat travels up and with it goes smoke, grease and smell. A downdraft is limited....See Moreold thermador cooktop and downdraft....help
Comments (0)i am remodeling a friends kitchen that has a very old 36 in. thermador cooktop with 4 burners and a grill in the middle. i wanted to keep the downdraft (which looks to be the typical downdraft that just goes up and down behind the cooktop)......the only problem that i can see is that the control for the downdraft vent is on the old thermador. if i get a new cooktop, can i have that rewired somewhere else or do i also have to get a new downdraft? please let me know if i can answer any more questions or make this any clearer!!!!! thanks.......See MoreThermador downdraft with cooktop -- install into 24" deep cabinet?
Comments (2)Are there special circumstances, like an obstacle that needs to be built around, or perhaps an island installation? If so, that could explain the cabinet designers' increased depth measurements. I have a Thermador drop-in range with the pop-up downdraft installed in an island. The actual cabinet depth is 24 3/4" (28" countertop depth minus the 1 5/8" front and rear countertop overhangs and 3/4" front and rear fluted pilaster trim pieces). And just so you know, the only reason the island's measurements are what they are is we wanted to keep to the exact footprint of the original island (which housed a Jenn-Air cooktop and downdraft) so we wouldn't have to redo the wood flooring! Like @cookncarpenter, I'd say the installation documentation is correct, but if these are truly professional designers, I'm sure there's a legit method to their madness. Just ask them to explain why their measurements differ from the manufacturer's; they should be happy to explain it!...See Morelbucelli
