Austin roses at Whole Foods
Comments (41)Stop at Whole Foods in Baton Rouge and the have two small boxes of about 14 or so left. They are out front of store behind a pillar. Not visable from the street. I picked up "Gentle Hermoine" and "Litchfield Angel". Talked with some lady who stopped to see what I was looked at into buying two of them. She told me " I was a bad influence" on her! Ha! but she said "you know us rose people doesn't take much"!. What they had left(that I remember anyway): "Litchfield Angel", "Tess of Deuberville"," Lady of Shalot", "Gentle Hermoine" and one "Darcey Bussell" ....See MoreHouston Grocery Store Selling David Austin Roses???
Comments (4)Made the trip to Houston today. Whole Foods had their DA's on display - Lady of Shallot, Darcy Bussell, Munstead Wood [had only 2, I got 1], Winchester Cathedral, Litchfield Angel, Charlotte. I got: Munstead Wood, Winchester Cathedral, Lady of Shallot and Charlotte. I have the last 2 at growing at home, but couldn't resist as they looked so healthy. They are $19.99, beautifully packaged and healthy. They had gorgeous fresh flowers and bouquets........so hard not to take one home! Also picked up a couple of loaves [not cheap, $6 each but SO worth it!] of Dave's Killer Bread. This is wonderful organic bread with lots of seeds and oatmeal. Marvelous! Check it out if any of you go by Whole Foods....See MoreTHIS is why I order Austin roses from David Austin Roses.
Comments (32)Rebecca- your roses are gorgeous but so much work. I live in Massachusetts. It is so difficult to even dig a hole 10 inches deep with all the rock, boulders and ledge so I try to buy only own root roses. I have gotten some wonderful own root roses from DA and have some more scheduled for delivery next week. I hope they add more own root to their collections. I recently ordered 'Queen of Sweden' and 'Windermere' which is by far my healthiest DA rose and covers herself with delicate soft blush pink blooms from early summer till fall. She is cane hardy in my Z5b-6a garden. The only negative is lack of the "to die for" strong perfume scent that Austins are so known for. sharon...See MoreOh, no. David Austin getting rid of so many roses
Comments (30)soncna, I feel sure you will still be able to get these roses in Europe, even if sold under the AUS codes.... or from other suppliers here that export.. I can still get all of them here from my local nursery Style Roses too.. bare root and potted...even long since discontinued like Evelyn, Heathcliff, and WS2000... I'm surprised that American gardeners on Instagram and Facebook are in a panic as what happens here, and this is from DA UK, does not always go the same way elsewhere.. Their DA U.S arm seems to operate in a different way.. I'm not in the least concerned about the DA bred roses, but what does concern me more, and I'm quite disturbed about this, is that they have given us no warning about which of the OGR and specie roses they are discontinuing amongst the reported 30%... when Peter Beales did this they gave us a ''Last Chance to Buy'' option... DA have sold out of most of their Old Roses... they have some that are not sold by anyone else amongst over 700 roses... for instance the Hulthemia 'Edward Hyams'.. is quite rare, from Iran... if they remove roses like this without telling anybody, - and they are fond of keeping things quiet - then I think it's really poor form on their part.....See Morealameda/zone 8/East Texas
