Easy Elegance roses-they seem to be pushing them hard here
Comments (43)I bought quite a few of these last year at Lowe's and am enjoying seeing how they are acting this spring here in zone 5. Due to my daughters wedding last fall I got NO outside work done, never even got my potted roses into the garage because so much wedding stuff was in there, so no winter protection at all. Little Mischief has tons of foliage and was mostly cane hardy. It's a short plant that has filled in quite well after being planted in the dead of summer last year. High Voltage was mostly cane hardy as well. Much taller. Two that I cannot find a tag for (but are the same - it's a symmetrical bed) I am pretty sure was Music Box. They were taller and mostly cane hardy as well. Wasn't expecting that from Music Box as I had read their vigor and hardiness was somewhat questionable. Grandma's Blessing was not cane hardy at all - just pruned it way down this week. Pretty sure it will grow back from the ground though. Have Champagne Wishes across the sidewalk and it wasn't very cane hardy either but is pumping out growth now. In a different bed (more exposed to wind and less snow cover) Sunrise Sunset planted late summer was almost fully cane hardy and has growth the entire length of sprawling 4' long canes. I suspect it's going to outgrow its spot in the bed and head into the yard this summer. My Girl looks good as well. Had to prune out some winter kill. Calypso had quite a bit of cane die but looks like it will grow back well from the ground. Unfortunately I had about 5 more still in the growers pots that never got planted and never got put in the garage. Whoops. I think one (super hero maybe???) may still be alive but the others don't look promising. That's my own fault though. They had had a whole bunch of them at Lowes earlier this week. I may have to go get a Kashmir (don't think I found it last year) and look for a Sweet Fragrance - debated on it last year and don't remember seeing it the other day. I did pick up two Above and Beyond climbers at Lowes - not Easy Elegance but same company. It's so easy on the eyes. And really nice folks there - although maybe they're just so nice because they're living in paradise. /Eileen. I hear you about the furry babies. All those little planty faces staring up at you, and their moms nearby so you can see exactly what they will look like when they are of an established size. It should make it easier to decide what you want, but really what happened to me was that I suddenly saw the appeal of all the plants I'd previously vetoed when merely viewing them online. Unfortunately Kelly has been busy addressing some health issues. We recently heard she was making some progress and I'm sure she'll be on here again eventually. I miss her too. /Renee. Comments (84)I'm home and I survived another holiday! We went to friends' in rural north San Diego county - we are both child-free couples so this has become a tradition. One more couple joined us, as they did last year. I was ordered to bring a delectable dessert - ME! Dessert! Hence the thread, blah-blah. What did I end up making? First I was going to do Nancy's pumpkin creme brulee. But the hostess said she was making smoky pumpkin soup. And it wasn't something I could easily make in advance, according to me. So I changed my mind and made Sharon's pears in port with stilton whipped cream, and a flourless chocolate cake with raspberry ganache. I also made mini pumpkin and walnut scones with a maple icing for the long weekend. And I brought a roquefort tort with cranberries and roasted hazelnuts, from Costco. When I got there, I found that there was a change - no smoky pumpkin soup. It was going to be pear soup! LOL. We had too much stuff, so I refrigerated the pears to eat another time during the weekend. They were delicious by the way - thank you Sharon! I bought a huge bottle of tawny port so I will be making these again for ourselves this winter. The flourless chocolate cake was served with a generous dollop of whipped cream and garnished with fresh raspberries. It was delicious too. It was too easy to make in advance and will be added to my limited dessert repertoire. The friends had a new 75-pound Pyrenees puppy (I had seen her earlier in the year when she was a lot smaller), and four egg-laying hens. Along with the existing Pyrenees, Retriever and four cats, it was a full house and I don't think I'll get the dog hair out of my clothes for a few washings, LOL!...See MoreHere she is ....
Comments (6)OMG, doesn't she have the biggest rump?? I got a little carried away - and my boobs are so perky!! My grandsons didn't like her bottom so I may have to glaze it so more to give her a better cover. They are only 9 and the first thing they commented on was her butt. The bubbles were very easy. We took the holes from the paper from a three ring binder, tore off one of the holes and used it as a stencil. Then just lightly pounce white over the holes. Not too heavy with the paint because you don't want it to be solid white. Then on one side do a small comma stroke and on the opposite side put a reflective dot of white. Use differnt size holes to make smaller bubbles - as you can see I didn't have any other size holes to use so behind her back I used my little finger dipped in paint and blotted. Another tip is to use Press N Seal wrap. Once we had painted the mermaid we pressed the wrap over the painting. Then we took a credit card and rubbed over the wrap to seal it to the wood. Then using a very sharp razor, we trimmed around the mermaid. Once that was done we removed the excess wrap. The mermaid is now completely covered. Then paint your background brushing out from the mermaid so the paint doesn't get under the wrap. Once everything was painted we brushed on a coat of DecoArt All Purpose Sealer. Then we put Burnt Sienna, red, purple, and white oil paint on our palette. We then put out a oil glazing gel. We brushed on the glazing gel on her face, then with a scrubby brush we added a little bit of red to her cheeks, then a little highlight on her nose and top of her cheeks with white. Then with Burnt Sienna, we defined her muscles on her back and her arm. With purple we glazed her tail and I added a bit of purple in the dark areas of her hair. The nice thing was if we didn't like it we just wiped it off. Another thing she had us do was to take baby wipes and add alcohol to it. If we made a mistake with our acrylic painting we just took the baby wipe and wiped off the paint. Don't rub too much or you could go down to the bare wood. sheila, that's lily's fluffy baby (whom I would snuggle to death!)
This is my sorta fluffness. Just her tail, mostly. And between her paws. She's soft and, apparently, fairly proper since she likes to cross those paws.
