Pros and Cons of slab porcelain for kitchen backsplash

Writer Girl5000

I'm in the planning stages of a kitchen remodel. And the final question for me is: what do I use as a backsplash? I want a dark gray, mottled industrial look (planning a modern kitchen). Cost is a factor, as is design/look. Ideally, I want something that's stain and heat resistant. Which is how I arrived at slab porcelain.

I live in NYC. Anybody have any experience with this? Pros/cons? Cost per/sq including installation? Or if you absolutely hate it, think it's a nightmare, please chime in too and if you have any alternatives, let me know (I'm even considering porcelain tiles (12"x24" with no grouting to sorta match the look).

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
