I would use the same wood. Marble look tile can look good in the public rooms of a super modern house in Miami, but not as good in your average suburban home.

Whole-house flooring is such an asset. Perhaps there would be a way to refinish it better. Have you looked into Loba 2K Supra AT? It is remarkably durable and should last you decades even in the kitchen.

IMo the easy answer it to rip it out and should have been done from the beginning adding another layer of frlooring on top will create a whole new set of issues like your DW won’t fit under the counter . Rip it out get some vinyl tile so much easier on feet and knees and do this right. Even if you could find the same tile the dye lots from then til now will make the tile look diferent anyway. IMO do it right the first time. Do you have 48” walkways allaround that island just out of curiosity and maybe you could remove the tile from under the island to replace the ones you need to replace .

No, not odd, and really no different than if your first floor was hardwood, and the upper was carpet. Or your first floor was hardwood and you came back years later...... as many folks DO AND RIPPED A CARPET from an upper and replaced with engineered hardwood, simply because they didn't have time or desire to go through a process of install, sand, finish. The only thing to avoid? Never try to put a "wood look" plank porcelain tile against the real wood thing. It''s a fail every time. Guaranteed fail. And every single tile shop is LOADED with them........so, NO on that. If you do an LVP? The real hardwood you have now on first floor? Is out. So from an economic standpoint? Me? I simply add more of what I have, sand it ALL don't worry on board width match. Sand NEW AND OLD , finish, and carry on!! : ) Gorgeous with white cabinets.
