Antique piano sound plate
Comments (2)How big is it, what's it made of, & how much does it weight?? Back in late 60's Dad bought a Lester player piano from a co-worker... maybe $25, iirc? Can't remember HOW it was ever put in our basement? It didn't have any of the player "guts", was NOT anywhere near playing condition... we just played around with it. I'm sure it's old enough to have actual EBONY & IVORY keys, tho badly beat up. When we cleared out Dad's house, I (can't believe) paid abut 10 TIMES that amount to have it hauled about 40-50 miles to my house. It has been living exactly where the mover guys put it... over 20 years ago!?! Imagine the dust "wolverines" behind/under THAT hulk!! Have inexpensive speakers sitting inside the box that sound GREAT coming out. I've thought about trying to disassemble it, piece by piece to get to what LOOKS like a brass?? plate that runs the whole width of piano... where all those wires attach. I don't know is it goes all the way to the floor (probably a good 4')....See MoreHow to clean an antique rug?

Comments (6)Is this a fine piano? What brand? Is all intact? Will it be played by a serious student ot is it mainly for decoration? Likely it is quartersawn oak..., unless it's a very fine instrument. If you brush on the solvent that will dissolve the finish ( you have to do as russ says...test with a Q-tip to see what the finish is) But if you brush on the solvent...allow it a moment to soften the existing finish, then quickly even it out....it will look like new....or rather like it did when it was new. It sounds like mumbo jumbo...but it works. And I will guarantee that a mix of 2/3 shellac thinner and 1/3 laquer thinner wil work. You don't want to remopve the finish, just soften it so that all smooths out and gets rid of the checking. Linda C...See MoreHow to clean up a marble top on buffet
Comments (9)I have honed marble countertops in my kitchen, and I have never had a stain that required more than the regular stone cleaner spray I use everyday. Until lily pollen! OMG...that orange stuff made nasty yellow stains that the stone cleaner didn't touch. They were so hideous I figured I had nothing to lose so I dabbed straight up bleach on them with a Q-tip. They came right up, and it didn't even etch! Definitely test a tiny bit first...and if your finish is polished DEFINITELY test it...but it worked great on my honed. Good luck...pretty piece!...See Morelindac92
