Not a pro but live in Vancouver so understand your concerns!

All our patio furniture is rust proof material with resin. Then there are cushions on top of it. We pull them all under cover when it rains. As you’d indicated we do get some rain and they are out and when this happens we run out and pull them in.

Our sofa and two chairs we’ve had for three years now and it still looks new. The sectional we’ve had two years and still looks new too but it’s on our covered deck. Sorry pics aren’t better. I was setting up for a socially distanced covid visit in summer lol

About twenty five years ago we bought a teak set of four chairs and a table from a local manufacturer. It wasn’t cheap, although I don’t recall the cost. But I can say it has been outdoors all year round since it was bought. It is far too heavy to take in and out, even if that were practical in a climate where it can rain at any moment in any season and we had somewhere to store it. It looks weathered but we like that and it’s as sturdy as the day it was purchased. It’s likely to last as long as we do. So I’d say buy quality and buy once. The problem is, as g.g.’s story illustrates, price isn’t always directly correlated to quality. On the other hand, if you follow fashion you might not want the same furniture for decades.

Gardengal- my ILs have something similar to you and your Family member and they have owned for as long as I've known them (plus probably a decade or two) and it still looks great.

AS- I feel like similar materials are very popular here too since they must hold up so well. we also have similar androack chairs as you made out of PVC and it's so nice just leaving them out and not even thinking about it.

UK-Thats good to know as my "vision" is something made from wood but I'm just trying to decide if I should let go of that idea for something more practical for our location. We do have a dining table that is have teak and half power coated aluminum ( I think) which we have had for the last 15 years (and left outside all year round) that we are now just thinking of replacing it. I also like the look of weathered teak. We don't tend to cycle thru cycles fast so that's why I think buying something quality once makes sense. It's hard to know sometimes which stores are actually quality since as Gardengal pointed out it's not always the price that means it will last.

Just want to add that my outdoor dining table is wood - unstained cedar manufactured by Mukilteo Cedar. Purchased at cost when I was still associated with my local nursery so a big savings from its normal $500 retail price tag. I expect it to last - outside and unprotected - as long as I do :-))

I'm in Florida, close to the coast and nothing lasts here with the sun and the water. I have finally given into polypropylene furniture after trying metal, faux wicker, metal, wood and metal.

I agree the furniture may out of recyclable plastic is wonderful. Bought 2 chairs 10 years ago and still looks like new. Also look at Telescope patio furniture. Excellent quality, pricey but lasts for years. If you need an umbrella Treasure Garden makes excellent ones.

I'd be disinclined to compare the durability of any outdoor furniture in the PNW to other areas of the US further east :-) Believe it or not, we are considerably drier than most other eastern locations, especially in summer, and relative humidity most of the year is very low.

And except for the synthetic rattan, plastic looks like plastic! And IMO looks cheap :-)

Well there is plastic and then there is plastic. My chairs cost $300..00 each, Not the $20 ones from HD.

Thoughts on Resin wicker, the frame is power coated aluminum. Site says its mildew, water and weather resistant.

That’s what we have. We do cover it in winter. Right now outside so feet are getting wet but rest is covered.

Thanks AS, space cadet over here that I already forgot you said that. The products look different so I didn't link the too. A sofa I have been looking at for a while is on clearance when I just checked so I'm thinking of ordering if my husband is on board with the look.

I’m also in the PNW so can relate to the rain issues. I bought Cane-line (Danish company) furniture over 11 years ago and it still looks brand new. It’s a woven resin type that stays outside all year round. I do bring the cushions in over the winter and they are on a covered deck spring through fall. It wasn’t the cheapest furniture, I think about $2500 Cdn for a loveseat, two chairs and a coffee table, but averaged over 11 years (so far) I think it’s been worth every penny.

A S, I bought the bases and tops separately on Craigslist. There are actually two 36” square wooden tops (together in the photo) and the bases are cast iron with adjustable feet from a Burnaby restaurant that was going out of business. I find having two square tables gives me more flexibility.

Agree with Beverly’s suggestion. Check out Room & Board & Brown Jordan ( lasts forever ) . My parents always bought Brown Jordan, not cheap, but very high quality.
