Shower door - pivot or continuous hinge - pros/cons?
Comments (3)More stable? I don't understand your question, I guess. How thick (heavy) is your glass? How about the quality of the hinges? How stable is your fixed panel? Hinges come in many flavors... I was shocked at the cost of ours. Our door is self centering so it goes in or out. It is attached with hinges to a braced wall. As long as your shower head isn't directly across from the door, you most likely won't have any leaks regardless of your hinge choice. We have a good 3/8" space on either side of our door with no leaks. -Babka...See MorePros and cons of Single Door vs. French Door Frig?
Comments (14)I had had sid by sides for years, and recently went to a FD bottom freezer. The frig is more convenient. But I preferred the freezer in the SxS. I find the bottom freezer very difficult to organize. Things just end up piled on top of one another, and its hard to get things arranged to the bins will close. I also went to counter depth this time, and my 36" CD FD holds less than my 33" SxS did. I made it up with a freezer in the basement, but my basement is *very* inconvenient to get to. IMO there are no perfect solutions unless you have a lot of space and $$$. If I had both, I would probably have a 36" all frig and a 24" or 36" all freezer. If the question is just between FD bottom freezer and single door bottom freezer, then I would go with a single door if you have the room for it to open well. The FD reduces the required clearances, but makes door storage less efficient and provides more things to go wrong....See MoreSingle vs. Double Barn Door- Pros and Cons?
Comments (15)I even have an actual barn and don't want barn doors on it! I say go with something simpler to use and more practical. If you absolutely are going with barn doors, I would have two. Then instead of moving an insanely large door back and forth you could leave one closed all the time and just haul the other one open and closed....See MorePros and cons of door-less showers?
Comments (2)We have had doorless showers with heated bathroom floors for 30 years. We turn the water on for a little bit before getting in to take any chill off. Once I am in the shower under the water and when I get out I am fine. My husband really doesn’t like to be cold and he doesn’t mind it either. In our old house there was a big window right next to the shower, looking out into the woods, no neighbors. Occasionally, when it was very cold and windy outside I would notice somewhat of draft. Not in our new house, where the windows are on the other side of the room. If you really like the closed up shower, hot steam room feel, you might not like an open shower. I love the expansive feel of it and don’t miss the steam room aspect at all....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
