We are trying to decide on backsplash tiles for our currently in-process of being built white shaker kitchen. Though the white subway/variations-on-marble look is classic & beautiful, we were hoping to use the opportunity to introduce some color into the kitchen. Green? Blue? Warm neutrals? Patterns?!? Cabinets will be white shaker, countertops a combo of stainless and butcher block, floors white oak. Lots of light and classic neutrals. We have just a few uppers, and also some open floating shelving - backsplash will go to ceiling. Going for a classic farmhouse style, but modernized with with eclectic/industrial details. Was thinking it might be an opportunity to take a little risk . . . or not? Anyone willing to share photos of their white kitchens with colorful/patterned backslashes? Thanks to everyone!

The diagonal floor tiles and the ornate diagonal in the backsplash bother me ... if both were straight or both curvy I'd be OK with it. With a small kitchen, if you have a prominent backsplash or other feature, it will look closer and make your kitchen feel smaller.

I think I prefer a very light gray to a white- not sure I am able to pick the 'right' shade of white. DH prefers a darker gray. I do realize that my choices here are not very 'light gray' and perhaps is part of the problem. rantontoo- yes, it is a shade... poor picture taking skills :) I have to agree that the shade of the white marble does not look good... after your comments I went back to look at it and it does seem like it is a lot whiter than my cabinets (and countertop of course). saints08 - I believe they are Rococo. Based on the comments I should focus on 2 or 3 or something else... but what could that something else be? Any suggestions? My budget is up to $20 per square feet. #2 sometimes looks good to me... like a light gray but sometimes it turns beige and I do not like that...it is a chameleon.
