I forgot all about this. I don't think I did it last year. I always donate my money to a horse rescue that keeps a container at the feed store, near where we moved. I have a little extra this year, so I will keep it until I go back down there, and again, donate to the horse rescue.

Last year was the first year I’d ever heard of it. My husband, surprised me by just going along and not giving me the third degree.

We are looking forward to it! A new tradition!

I have been burying the money several years now and it has worked for me.

Last year we buried a $20 bill. We gave this to a man who collects bottles in the neighborhood. (We live in NYC). We wanted to give in an out of the ordinary way. We already have the places we donate to. Local charities for clothing and household items, and others for monetary contributions, and church, when I could/would attend (precovid)

I thought I had read somewhere last year here that it had to be something different than the usual? In any event it felt right. We have decided we want to give two gifts this year. We will bury two separate bills.

Oops I think I still have this New year's Day's money! Does it still count if I give it away after the new year or do I have to go out and find a charity by the 31st of this year before midnight?

I thought these other traditions were interesting as well. Someone here said shake an empty wallet at the sky. On this traditions article it says fill a wallet with money. I suppose I will have to have two wallets at the ready. One filled with what few dollar coins and bills Etc I have nowadays and one that is empty ready for the cosmos to give me some. :-).

Yeonasky, you can accumulate the money if you want, it doesn't have to be given away the same year. Last year I kept my money in a ziploc bag in my purse and gave it away as needed. (donations for poppies, kettles etc, tips for servers, etc)

Yeonassky, you can save them up as long as you want. No rules about how long before you donate them.

I have been doing this for so many years I don't remember when I started. I was saving My money to have a better donation amount. Unfortunately the bag they were in was lost in the flood along with everything else. Maybe someone found it that needed it, at least that's what I like to imagine.

I think this year I am going to increase my investment 😁. It definitely paid off this year. I received a nice check in the mail from a law suit that I had no idea was happening. It involved Lumber Liquidator and some flooring. It was a class action suit. Plus a few other surprises $$$💵

I invited my sister to do it as well. We stayed on the phone as we “buried” the money. We both used flower pots.

Last year, right out of the gate, we were invited to drive a Lexus and received $75 for doing so.

I buried the money but also included a head of garlic and some chamomile tea for good health.

I may have already received some good fortune today, or maybe it’s from last year’s buried money. A check arrived from Rakuten for a whopping $10 and change.

If I had buried money yesterday I would be digging it out through a layer of ice and snow today.

Me, too, Raven. I increased mine. I am probably going to send it, via US mail this year to a horse sanctuary that I follow on FB. I have followed her for a couple of years, and I know she does good work. The rescue I usually donate to turned down taking Snoop when Animal Control had him, but I understand. He was unadoptable, and they are a rescue, not a sanctuary. So this year I increased the amount and will send it to a sanctuary.

I buried mine and just dug it up. I put it under snow on my balcony, today it was a bit difficult to dig back up as temperatures dropped last night and it was icy.

I unburied mine and put it with previous years'. Here's to a new year filled with wealth, good fortune, and health for us all.

My dog got me up to go out at 3:00am, so I took the opportunity to dig up the money. I knew it was going to be raining so it worked out great. Good luck to everyone for another fortunate year.

This morning I got a text saying $600 had been deposited in my bank account. So I'm off to a good start!

I dug my little quarter from a pot of artemisia and will drop it on the walkway to my neighbor's front door, heads up, of course, because finding a coin heads up is good luck. He's in a performance arts profession and isn't getting much work these days, so he could use the luck.

I hope this does not portend disaster....I buried 2 cents in a pot of plants in front of my apt. When I went to dig them up, I could only find 1 cent. And a buried pecan. I suspect a squirrel might have buried the pecan, it is a really large pot, but why would he dig up a penny?

I'm hoping that Those In Charge of Good Luck will decide to grant both me and the squirrel a good year.

I did $10 this year. That's the most thus far. My friend and her mom usually do $20 each. Her mom recently passed away, instead of changing their tradition she still buried two $20's.

Matthias, I like that idea. I buried $1 so maybe I will leave it somewhere for some lucky stranger to find.

Almost forgot to unbury the money, but DH remembered! Phew!
