Name That Plant!House Plants garden

Any monstera experts? Is this a Monstera Adansonii v. Laniata?

Hi! I was browsing FB marketplace looking for plants (I can't be the only one, right) and came across this listing for a wide-form monstera adansonii. I have a lot of plants and have a wide form and this just doesn't look like it. I messaged the seller and shared my suspicions but I'm not an expert by any means.

Hoping that someone can take a look and help us solve this mystery! Thank you :)

Thank you Jay!! I'll definitely check out the group. Can I bother you to share what are the primary differences between the two varieties? I'm personally new to monstera collecting but absolutely love the fenestrations on the mature versions.

I bought a split leaf 2 years ago at a yard sale for $2. When I got it, there was only 2 small leaves. Since then, I would say it is about 3 1/2 - 4 ft tall and about 7-8 ft in diameter. There are so many leaves:) I love it, but I need to prune it back some because after I transplanted it into a new pot, the leaves are pointing in different directions and some of them are upside down now. I have tried to prop them up to face the right way, but I am afraid of breaking the thin stock. For some reason, their branches are thicker than the base. So, how would I go about pruning the leaves back? Do I just cut them where I would want it, or is there a certain spot on the branch, base, or what I call (conjunction-a cluster of branches from one place)? I won't do anything to it until I know it won't hurt it. This thing likes to grow fast!!! I can almost guarantee that I won't be able to find this place again on the web, so if you know the answer to my question, please email me at cpenena@hotmail.com. Very much appreciated.

OmG....Bihai...you have morel mushoom in your garden...last picture..mid to lower right corner...a golf ball looking thing... that's a morel mushroom...they are very tasty...fried them with butter....real tasty.. have a good flavor..hard to find in the wild...up here in MN.... the harvesting season is in April and only for 2 weeks.....ooohh you lucky....and chance of newbie to find it is like finding a deer in the middle of city....hard...to find....oh and btw beautifull garden......

I've grown aroids for over 40 years and have never seen or heard of a variegated friedrichsthallii/obliqua/etc, or a variegated adansonii for that matter. Interesting regarding the pics of the monstera above, it looks like my juvenile plants of adansonii, which eventually grow enormous. I'd be interested if the variegated form above ever tries to revert to all-green. If it does, I'd be careful about paying a lot of money for it. Sometimes it's difficult to stop reverting in other variegated monstera species, such as the Borsigiana form of deliciosa. My friedrichsthallii/obliqua plants are all highly skeletonized and never look like adansonii at any stage, and vice versa. So I'm not completely convinced that they are one and the same. Russ

Russ, mine didn't develop fenestrations for a while but when it did the leaves were still small and the vine about head height. Later though, it took off, in all dimensions. We're officially a couple of days into spring now, but still the dry season. This morning's minimum temp was 21C, maximum today 38C. Forecast for the coming week is most days at 38C, but unfortunately no rain. Dialt,mine aren't dangling, but what's shown in the photo is what you could expect. They're looking for 'another tree' to climb, so concentrating on distance rather than size of leaves. I looked for a place with potential for growing some jungle and then worked with that. There were some good foundation plants already there, which helped a lot. I posted some photos of my garden last year in the Tropical Plants forum. Emily, both varieties are the same species with slight differences in appearance, but they aren't different enough to be considered separate species, or subspecies. I don't how many differences they have to each other, but the leaves definitely are different, the wide form leaves have many more holes. The plant in your photos may be an immature specimen that will have more cut leaves later on. I think it's interesting that Epipremnum get cut leaves on very mature plants. I just found that out recently. Apparently they never bloom either, even when mature, and have to be treated with chemicals in order to coax a bloom. So subspecies, variety, forma. Can anyone explain the differences between them?🤣

I don't even think the experts can agree on that. Lots of plants are shuffled between subspecies and varieties, and then later back again.

I bought mine online from Canapy Plant Co. and thw leaf form looks very similar to mine.

My orders from Canapy have arrived quickly, healthy and good prices and I'd also suggest looking at Steve's Leaves.

I recommend both about equally.

Very good sources to buy from online.
