Help me choose exterior colors for my Tudor style house!
Comments (7)I'd call it Tudor, but its probably more accurately a storybook cottage. Whatever you want to call it, what a neat house. It's adorable! I'd prefer a light stucco with dark trim. It's just what looks right to me. The green you have now reminds me a little of the green used in the brick and timber frame farmhouses in northern Germany. My grandfather told me that they painted the wood green for good luck (or maybe it was to blend in with the moss) https://farm9.static.flickr.com/8689/17227343571_5c078f319f_b.jpg...See Moreplease help me choose a color for the outside of my home
Comments (6)Sorry, I thought the siding was tan from how the picture looks on my monitor. I only meant navy blue for the door, not the siding, which is an easy fix if it fades. The only other color I can see going with your brick other than white or tan is maybe a very pale, soft grey-green? Or maybe a pale grey-blue?...See MoreHelp me choose a chandelier for my home library
Comments (38)What gives off a decent amount of light is dependent on the wattage. And these days with the LED bulbs you can't go by that either. For sure, for sure, use a shade, or a glass covering below the bulbs to prevent glare. A drum fixture looks very nice, or something that looks like the Fortuny ceiling fixture, but instead of fabric uses glass under the bulb. By code, you should have wall outlets every three feet near the floor.. If you are going to bookshelves lining the walls of the room, please consider having lamps (picture lamps) affixed to the top of the bookshelves. You can have them permanently wired, or you can purchase them with long cords and just run the cords down the back of the bookshelves and plug them in behind the bookshelves in the outlets. I also highly, highly suggest that when you have outlets installed, you have "smart outlets" installed. I am no whiz at that, but talk to your electrician. You or your children should be able to plug in their USB's and whatever and you might as well get the room up to snuff in that department. I am embarrassed to admit that the average 14 year-old knows waaay more about this than I do. When my child was in 4 th grade she knew more about it than I did!! Take a minute and look online at the home library of the writer Shonda Rhimes. I have never seen a single TV show of hers, I just saw this in a magazine and liked the room and the light fixture. https://video.architecturaldigest.com/watch/inside-shonda-rhimes-1920s-style-home-study Here are some photos of libraries that some of the fixture ideas I mentioned All three show the picture lights affixed to the bookcases making it very easy to find the book you are looking for. The first and third photo show the suspended glass or stone (traditionally alabaster, I think) below the bulbs. The first photo shows an ottoman which is marvelous thing to have in a library. It might be something you want to consider having, a great ottoman in front of your sofa, and you can have a great big tray on which to put drinks, etc. If you don't want to do that. you can have recliner chairs, or chairs with smaller ottomans or poufs....See MorePlease help me choose a color for my house
Comments (8)Thanks for all the suggestions. The roof is current. The reason for the color change is that the house was painted in a glossy-ish paint and the paint is just flat out peeling. It seems like it wasn’t prepped right, maybe? I love the warm white or cream colors. Would you do no trim or darker trim? Would a brown fascia look ok?...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
