Comments (58)I can't pick a favorite of yours since it may not be available here for a while. I've always wanted Valley's Magnum and V. Perfect Flow (nice pic) is on my list but never seen them for sale so I stopped looking at his site and the Hosta Library. Perhaps I could live vicariously through yours if you get one (hint, hint) as we all do for the others. I'm always tempted to get whatever is available, but so far only picked up V. Ruffle Shuffle and V. Lemon Squash. This year I was very tempted by V. Himitsu and V. Salty Crocodile (among others) but convinced myself I had similar ones already - although, there's still time. I'm so glad you posted in alphabetical order. It makes it easy to go back and look for specific ones. Frisian Pride hit my list early and I found one at Wade & Gatton's 3 years ago before I could find it anywhere else. I'm not sure I have it in the right spot yet, but I do like it next to V. Ruffle Shuffle. Frisian Waving Steel is on my list, but I keep debating between that and Fleet Week (and Flemish Sky) so haven't pulled the trigger on either, yet. Plus there are newer Hostas that are also similar. Looking forward to seeing what else you can tempt me with. Speaking of Flemish, surely you have a line on some of Danny's hard to find intros to tempt us with. Flemish Gold was one of the first Hostas I bought and Flemish Beauty is a fast favorite. Soooo..... favorite cactus? What is that one you posted above? Ferocactus fordii ??? I remember hiking around the California high desert and loving the wild cactus, especially in bloom. I didn't know what they were beyond their common names....See MoreHosta Z 2020 ......................
Comments (18)Miles, the 4 I have now were all born outside. Momma is almost 16. I started trapping and neutering outdoor cats in 2005 which is when mom brought her first litter here at about 4-5 weeks old. We neutered all the kittens then mom left. We thought well that’s that until she came back with her second litter......little did we know. They were all neutered and finally so was mom. Since then I did TNR (trap-neuter-return) probably 40-50 cats. Not just my yard, but neighbors, friends anyone that asked for help basically. Most cats didn’t stay. Some were very sick and then only kind thing was to euthanize them. But momma Snow, daughter Kibble and little Jingle from the second litter are still with me. We lost two to car accidents, two to sickness and one, Braveheart to hypothyroidism just before he turned 12. But they all lived quite good lives......they were all allowed inside, but only the girls really spend a lot of time inside. They sleep inside if they wish to. A new guy came around about 2 years ago, Seurat. He’s young, maybe 3 now. He’s a very sweet cat, but I can’t touch him yet, but he loves to sleep in one of the living room chairs, all day.....lol Anyway, we have a screen porch that we winterize and heat and the beds are all also heated. So, not bad for an outdoor cat. We love just as if we had picked them from a shelter. I am sure you feel thee same for your rescue baby. Thanks so much for caring about these cats.......it’s a tough life and once they get to know you......there’s so much love! ♥️ debra...See MoreHosta Companions 2020
Comments (87)Debra- I’ve had the opposite experience with Black Scallop ajuga... I‘ve lost it in most places it was planted. There are only a few plants here and there remaining. I would say that it seems to be susceptible to wet soil in winter, except there are places it survived that are probably pretty wet through the winter. I have one small awkward area at the bottom of the deck stairs and had hoped it would fill in there... but it disappeared. I replaced it with ajuga Chocolate Chip... and that seems to be doing better - so far. So, either way, success or failure- I also wouldn’t recommend Black Scallop, cute as it is....See Morenicholsworth Z6 Indianapolis
