advice on adding a garage to side and extending front entrance
Comments (11)Figure 60-100K for all of the permits, and work needed to do this. But it's doubtful that there is room after you factor in the setbacks. The only place for a garage is likely to be the rear, with maybe a breezeway attaching it to the home. With the hip roof, extending the front means reframing the whole roof to work with that idea as either a gable or a different pitch. This is not doable without some professional design and construction....See MoreAdding Front Porch and addition to small house with off center door
Comments (8)Thank you, GreenDesigns... The builder we are talking with got me in touch with a "Designer" from our local building supply store. They will do all the drawings and 3d renderings for us. The designer prefers a roof with gables, the builder said shed roof was easier and much more affordable. I was just looking for extra ideas. I am waiting on a visit from the two of them together here, to come up with a plan. I am hoping I can meet them with a clear vision, but maybe they will have a better plan!...See MoreAdding Front Porch - Balancing Home & Building Advice
Comments (9)Remove the shutters which don't fit the double window. Hang a pergola over the garage door at the same height as the top of the window frame on the opposite side for balance. Beef up the trim around the garage door to match that on the windows. Repaint your dormer white, or you might match it to the roof color. Hang new shutters on those dormer windows, but not louvered style. Black ones if you paint it white, and white ones if you match the roof color. Remove the block border of the bed on the left and curve the bed around in front of the porch and along the drive. Move the evergreen shrubs around to the left side of the house. Proven Winners has some dwarf flowering shrubs you should consider for under the double window, and right of the porch. Increase your porch lantern size to 1/3 of the door's height. It and the mail box should be black. You might paint door and its trim and the garage door black too, but wait until the other things are complete to decide....See MoreAdding additional one car garage and front porch
Comments (19)If you incorporate the existing garage closest to the house as a porch, then, if you add your two car garage with its door(s) facing the same direction as the door of the house -- not the direction of the existing garage door(s) , you could also extend the right wall of that garage several feet in front of the existing garage and create a shelter/overhang over the existing garage doors that lead to the front porches -- the one created from the existing garage adjacent to the house that could be connected to the smaller portico at the front door of the house. Driving in, you'd not even see the remaining garage door behind the new 2-car garage. You could connect the two garages with a door. If you like the style of your home ... if you want to keep true to the original design of your home, contact an architect to design your porch and garage addition. Putting up just any porch roof or even a smaller portico roof might not turn out as well as it could....See More- 3 years ago
