Speaking of invitations and gifts...
Comments (15)We had a little party thrown by friends after our private wedding. I did ask that there be a request for no gifts on the invite. We were both in our 40's with three homes between us....and we needed NOTHING lol the thought of new towels in 400 different shades scared me to death :) The request was soemthing to the order of "please share in celebrating this event with us. The couple requests no gifts please, just the pleasure of your company, but if you wish to bring one along, please bring a bottle of wine to share with the couple at a future date in their home" (I don't have one sitting here but that was the gist. We did receive several bottles of wine and shared them with the friends at a later date at different dinners. Our hostess was sweet and put a tag on each bottle with the name of the giver so we could thank them and then know which to bring out in the future. We're wine collectors and most of our friends are as well so it made sense...it might not if you just collect club soda :P...See MoreTis the gift to be simple, this the gift to be free
Comments (7)I remember that song myself, I believe it's Aaron Copeland who wrote the music. Congratulations on simplifying your life. Getting rid of clutter and debt are my current projects right now. Bad news is I owe around $62,000. Yikes! But the good news is I am on track to having it all paid off in less than three years. Mommabird, you are proof that it can be done! Thanks for your vey eloquent posting. I'll look for that book....See MoreSpeaking of Gifts and Family Members...
Comments (7)When I married my husband I had a son from a previous relationship. through the years we had a son and daughter of our own. Right from the start his parents embraced my son as their grandson. There was never any difference in gift value between my son and the children DH and I had together. I can't speak of gifts to our neices and nephews because I would never dream of asking what they got and comparing nor does it matter to me. My feeling is that the older kids shouldn't mind at all that you are buying gifts for the younger ones and the price should be of no importance to them or to your new SIL. Buy for each child what you feel inspired to buy. Nothing will make your "original" neices and nephew feel as if they're less important to you if you keep on loving them as you have been....See MoreSpeaking Of Bad Gift Choices
Comments (8)the christmas after my mom died, 2000, my dad sent me several cashmere sweaters and a boiled wool cardigan. all beautiful and very high quality but i live in orlando LOL and had never used any sweaters i brought down here yrs before. so i gave away the cashmere to friends who were native floridians going on their first ski vacation to see snow for the first time lol. the next christmas i went up to chicago for a shopping trip w/ my sis and took my cardigan that i had used as a coat. my sis shows up in chicago wearing the same cardigan LOL we had a good laugh about it. since then we get checks from our dad, we love that and so does he since it's the easiest thing for him. ~ liz...See MoreUser
