Favorite UF, Spider and Large Narrow Daylilies 2020
Post your favorite narrow cultivars from last season here. They can be spiders, unusual forms, or just large narrow flowers. This is one of my favorite categories, so I'm looking forward to seeing all these photos! The next category will be doubles.
Blazing Saddles is my favorite UF. It had sort of a mediocre run last season because it's getting to shaded out by irises and seedlings. I'm moving the seedlings this Spring, so it gets more sun.
Clump shot
This seedling out of Blazing Saddles is a great multiplier, but only has 12-13 buds, so I don't know that I'll register it. However, it makes a big splash where it's planted.
Another Blazing Saddles kid that has scapes ranging from 11-34 buds. It's a pretty good multiplier, so it probably will get introduced in a few years.
Rainbow Maker was a tremendous performer and rebloomer this year.
Mystic Maize was the best budded of all my registered cultivars this year. I like it alot!
Neon Flamingo put on a good show. It's never as well-budded or as tall as I would like, but you can't beat that pink color.
Violet Sabrewing had its best year ever, and was one of my most used pollen parents.
Reckless Girls had a of buds, but it was still a few inches shorter than registered.
Feathered Fingers bloomed for a long time.

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoThis just might also be my favorite category. I love the color of Neon Flamingo. Blazing Saddles and Rainbow Maker are lovely along with second Blazing Saddles seedling above , and a good performer too!
Banshee Whisper is a good multiplier here, it’s a favorite.
I love Boy Crazy. It has taken its time to get established, most likely because I moved it three times. It’s one of the few that match its height stats here and I didn’t expect that to happen.
Crystalline Entity is a true pink, the photo shows it a bit lighter in color than I see.
Getting Airborne is fairly new here and , yes, it’s a tall one.
Red Suspenders is new here, I see a true red, bud count was good this past season.Sherry

Heavenly Hidden Treasures was added this spring and had a few blooms.
Peanut Sunrise was added this spring and had a few blooms.
Silky Skies, the only Lambertson that likes my garden so far.
Northwind Dancer, a nice late bloomer.

Comments (22)To answer your question about staking: the only spider/ UF here which has needed staking in the past has been LIME PEEL. It hasn't begun blooming yet this season. It gets very tall and is in full sun. However, we've been in drought for years and this year are getting plenty of rain. I'll be anxious to see if the scapes are stronger this year. This AM, several which had multiple blooms yesterday had scapes that were bent over from the weight of the water ( we had a very strong storm yesterday and it was too wet to livehead last night.) on spent blooms plus there were new blooms. Once the old gooey blooms came off, the scapes perked up! Some of the older spiders/ UFs ( or those which are grown in too much shade) may need staking, or at least I hear people comment to that effect....See MoreFavorite Cascading Spiders/UFs?

I have to agree that 'Spider Miracle' is a good choice, beautiful blooms for a low price.(these spiders can get really costly) Pam, loved the pics in particular the shot of 'Bark at Me' with the Crocosmia as I added some to my primary daylily bed this year. Nice new addition to my reds and yellows! OT but do you dig your corms for winter? Comments (43)Signet Primrose Moth is 24 inches, also a smaller flower. My preference is the 22-28 inches. I have a big crowd of the back-of-the-border types, which is the favoured height it seems, but for me, I don't want them all at the back. I have too many tall daylilies, delphinium, phlox, culver's root, bee balm and shasta daisies etc. lol, here I need to fill in the middle, lol. How tall is Time Stopper? Don't know for sure, but guess where it is - at the back of the garden, lol. It is not real tall, but around 33-36 inches. It is taller than Neon Flamingo, which is beside it. Interesting, I just looked both up and Neon Flamingo is supposed to be 35 and Time Stopper 33. In my yard, Time Stopper is the taller one, and holds its scapes up very well, and is the better plant. Comments (37)Brad, I hope Thomas Tew blooms for you this year. And, yes, it is interesting about that bed of mine. The only thing different about it from the rest of my yard is that a silo once stood on that site. I may get that soil tested this year. Meanwhile I try to put all my lilies that have “white” as part of their makeup in that bed. It is the bed where Stardust Dragon resides. I don’t mean to hijack this topic but here is Porcelain Ruffles (that I forgot to post under P) in that bed. It is “ivory with pink overlay” but always this shade in that bed! 3 years agoLove this category. There are so many nice ones so far. Blazing Saddles is nice, but I like the 2nd kid even better! Boy Crazy, Getting Airborne, My Mam thinks I'm a Star, and Olly Olly Oxen Free are also quite nice.

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI am homebound by the blizzard so I have some time to post:) We have over 2 feet of snow already and it's still going with a rate of 1-2 inches per hour. The wind chill is in the single digits and it's a white-out with the blowing snow. Here it was this morning, which I took from the window. It is even deeper now!!!
See if you can find the CAR in the photo....
Believe it or not, the ROAD is behind the car. We parked near the road so we can get out, but it doesn't look promising.Now for the daylilies. I grow so many in this category so I will try to limit myself to the absolute favorites, of which there are too many.

Wood Native - Wild and Free is gorgeous. It's amazing how different some daylilies look from shade to sun.
Maryl - Thanks for posting Miss Goldie Gold Digger. I wish I could find a sunny spot to move mine. It used to be such a great rebloomer when it got full sun.
This category is such a favorite, and I must have at least 70 that fit in this category, so I'm going to post a few more.

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoSince I posted last, my DH came in from snowblowing and informed me that my estimate of the snowfall was way off. He measured over 3 FEET!!!!
We will certainly be having a White Christmas and DH looks a bit like Santa Claus here.....
Don't worry, I fed him lunch in between his snow removal gigs:) He's back out there, digging us out.This is a recent view from inside the house, looking out on our deck.

Lots of pretty ones here. This is a form that came late to my garden and it all started with Entwined In the Vine. I have accumulated several since then and have acquired an appreciation for them.

3 years agoLovely daylilies, everyone! I am beginning to like this category more and more.
Here are a few that we grow.
We love the size of Absolute Ripper.
Ballin' the Jack was new this year.
Bob Marley is one of Bob's favorites I like it too). It is a good grower here.
Coral Crab is an old variety (but new to us). I really like it. The flower is on the small side.
We don't have many true spiders, but I believe Electric Snake fits the description. This was its first year also.

Fulvous Brush Man is a late bloomer.
Green Arrow has a very green throat. It's probably the greenest daylily we have.
All of the Gryphons (from Gil Stelter of Canada) have been really vigorous growers. They all have some form of fulva in their immediate background. This is Gryphon Chelsea London.
Gudrid's problem is that the scapes often lean over.

3 years agoHeavenly Dark Knight is quite tall. When the scapes are young, they are blackish.
Heavenly Whirly Bird has a nice flower, but the scapes often lean over.
I love the curl on the sepals of One Hot Mama.
Rocky Top is one of our intros. It's a good grower for us.
If you like plain yellow, Tidewater Elf is a great grower. Ours has formed a huge clump, is well budded with a good scape to fan ratio. I won this as a prize on a bus tour on a region 2 summer conference and didn't think I would keep it. Now I think it has a permanent place in our garden.
