Can you provide an overhead view? It’s hard to tell with the photos what we are looking at. I see a few different fences in your ideabook, what did you decide to go with for the fence and for the gate? Which direction along the road will cars typically approach from?

This is the fence that we are building. I want to do something that coordinates with this fence but dresses up the front.
We are also planning to build a somewhat large, new house on the property that will be just past the small, first house. I think that the driveway entrance should go with the new house and should be something that is kind of classy rural (if there is such a thing).

bpath, thank you for your comment! We are at the end of the road, so no cars will be going past. We are using the fence in the picture that I posted around the property, but I haven't decided on something for the front yet. I hope to do something that is a little more upscale then what is around the rest of the property. If you have any suggestions, that would be great. Let me see what I can do to get you an aerial view.

Follow the curves and corners of the driveway. But can I ask why your doing a fence altogether? Is it to protect animals or something? Can you do trees instead? This is such a gorgeous property. I’d keep it as green and natural as I can

Thank you for your comment HU-187....We are not too far from the main road, and we had a couple of homeless people come on our property - so that is a concern to us. We also have lost several cats to coyotes and are hoping that the fence will help with that as well.
As far as the fence goes, when you say that it should follow the curves of the driveway, are you saying that we should come to the corners of the property and then have the fence come over to the driveway and then follow the driveway up and then have a gate?

As you pull in the drive, the gate and fence should be one flat straight line in your view connecting to the side fences. That means a triangle corner of your land will be outside the gate and fence. Do a more decorative fence on that entire front line of the gate fencing that converts to the other fencing where they meet.

Preferably the access for the shared well would be outside your gate and fence. If they need to get inside your fence, what is the point of a second gate? Not knowing where or how access to the shared well works, it is hard to say how a second gate might work.

I would make an effort to keep the easement to the well outside your gate and fence. If need be, put a gate and second fence inside your fence, a pen, at and around the wellhead itself since it intrudes further into the property.

Rather than a straight diagonal across the corner, I’d prefer a semi-circle, set back enough so the gate appears straight. Then landscape the semi-circle to conceal the fence. It should set back far enough that a delivery truck can pull off the road up to the gate.

How will package delivery (UPS, FedEx etc) access to deliver to the house or will you also be providing some kind of large drop off are that can be secured outside the fence?

Really good points about the package drop off - thank you! I like the semi circle fence/ landscaping idea. I may just go with that.

If I do a semi circle, would it be best to pave the semi circle, or would it be better to have the pavement be straight with dirt/gravel on the sides to turn around in?

Do you need to turn around? Can’t you just pull in to make the delivery or open the gate and then back out? Is the intersection dangerous? When I proposed a semi circle I envisioned the driveway approaching a gate set back within it. Shrubbery along the curves and perhaps lawn or ground-cover in front? Vehicles can occasionally drive on turf without damaging it. I think it’s an opportunity to design a stately entrance snd approach to your house. Choose a distinctive gate and columns.

kitasei - yes, we can just pull in and back out. I just was trying to get a clearer picture of what you were envisioning. I like your idea - that sounds really nice. I think that we will move in that direction. Thank you!
