Fixes a problematic layout? 18th Hour request for help?
Comments (41)Ha, davidahn! If I cooked like Rachel Ray, life would be very different in our house! :-) I will say that we have sort of a "team" dynamic for cooking in our house, because of our food business but also because of how we like to raise our girls in terms of helping to make and clear dinner. It is rare that only one of us is ever in the kitchen preparing a meal so there will always be another hand to ask for xyz. It's funny, I started with the cooktop in the island b/c that's how my parents had theirs and I loved sitting across from my mom and talking while she cooked dinner. She, on the other hand, did not - I only found out later! She felt that others couldn't participate and it was always hot and if she got distracted talking (we like to talk in a household of all girls!) something always good over or under cooked. But, I agree with you on the whole "back to the guests" issue which is why I ended up putting the cooktop on the side at least - side to the guests didn't seem so bad. ;-) I am still trying to figure out the light alignment. The lighting store said to go with them the length of the island, so perpendicular to the orientation of the seating area. I have two lanterns that are very minimal structure with more glass but they are 14" in diameter in the box area (17" up top where all the metal loops out). Lighting guy says parallel to length of the island, what do you think?...See MoreI guess the saga isn't ended!!
Comments (13)I met with my lawyer today. He said that so far everything is on the up & up and that the seller didn't give themselves a penalty for not responding to our home inspection request. That we could back out if we wanted but may lose our deposit. That because we didn't have anything in writing didn't mean anything because there is technically no time limit; however we could badger them to death to sign the release. Basically in a nutshell, our agent should have been more aggressive in doing things for us and making things happen. On a better note, our agent miraculously called with the news we would be getting a $7k credit. The relo company offering up $1k and the agent offering up $6k. Of course, agents cannot give $$$ to a buyer at the table, so she has to write the addendum as the relo is giving us $7k and then she would have to do a separate addendum giving them back $6k of her commission. I asked her many times over if she REALLY wanted to do this, and she said she did. So, we will see what happens. I feel kind of bad my friend is doing this, but obviously not bad enough to reject it and I feel bad for not feeling bad about that!...See MoreBotched Tile: how should I ask contractor to fix this mistake?
Comments (6)Hi Patricia and thank you for your comment. However, I did not post on the same subject. My other question is separate as I indicated in this post. If you'd like to check out the other post I welcome your feedback on that grout issue as well. And, as I said, we've been happy with our contractors work overall. That's why discovering this mistake and his lack of communication about it surprised us so much. 90% of the job is done and done well, so I'm not too concerned about that. I know he'll come for his last check, and I expect that he will fix it per what we request. I am seeking advice on exactly what to ask him to do from those with tiling/tile-fixing experience. Replace the whole tile on each piece that is chipped/or has the accidental hole? Or, is there an acceptable enamel-type fix anyone would recommend? I am the painter on this project and 2 of these tiles are next to the ceiling. I'm worried about damage to the new drywall, ceiling, and time I don't have to paint again as hubby and I are working full time during this closure. So, rather than flippant calls for shame, why not thoughtful ones about what to ask my contractor to do?...See Morecode issue? contractor to fix or do I have to pay for fix?
Comments (16)Why not raise the outlet to be up by the new switch location. Replace the BEP3 (3" base end panel) with a B9 or B12.....extend it down. Run your tile across and down to the floor/baseboard. If you don't like that idea, then put the outlet back between the window. What is the switch for? Drill an airswitch in to the countertop. You can use an airswitch for lots of things....not just a disposer. Another solution: Do an angled plugmold between the windows. Are you putting a wall cabinet back there? They will do one with a switch too. Or put the outlet and switch back....split it with him. I think he should eat it....but for $250...keep the peace....See MoreRemodel Newb
