bathroom remodel plumbing bid - reasonable?

I have been working with a contractor to get an estimate for my bathroom remodel. He finally came back with the total cost, and everything seems reasonable except for the $13,700 item for plumbing. I have gotten several bids for my bathroom already, all of which have estimated plumbing to be around $5-6k. This is the first contractor to actually have subs come in to get individual bids, and this plumber wants to also replace the 1/2 inch pipes coming from my basement up to the second floor bathrooms with 3/4 inch pipes. I don’t think anyone else has accounted for this, which is apparently required for code.

The bathroom project is turning one 16 x 5 bathroom into two approximately 8x 5 bathrooms, so there is a lot of plumbing involved. But an extra $8k for replacing pipes seems excessive to me.

Any idea if this sounds reasonable?
