Island pendant lights for blue kitchen cabinets
We are in the process of a kitchen renovation and I'm having a hard time choosing pendant lights.
The cabinets will be blue top, bottom and island, with a white elongated hexagon backsplash. The ceilings are just under 8ft. We have stainless steel appliances and a stainless hood. We would like to bring some warmth with brass/gold drawer pulls and would like to find two large pendants to frame the stainless hood.
We're already mixing metals so I'm not entirely opposed but perhaps a metallic brass pendant isn't the way to go and we should do something with a glass shade or white shade instead?

3 years agoIt's hard to tell if this look would be too busy with our dark cabinets. So picture this with dark blue cabinets and white backsplash.
The color is similar to this. But our cabinet style is very simple shaker.
Pendants I like are similar to these:The dome one also comes in white.
Or a pendant with a glass shade altogether.

Comments (3)I'm not an expert, just enjoy home decor and design. Your kitchen is beautiful. I have a similar cabinet color scheme, stainless appliances, bronze hardware. I choose bronze hardware and pendants because that's what I'm drawn too. I like the warmth of bronze. I read all the time about mixing metals. I'd suggest keeping the same style though. Comments (4)There is no rule as to how many pendants you should have . I would suggest first finding the pendant that you like and then decide depending on the pendant chosen. Comments (11)Good stuff from Beverly above. If you're a visual person (like me) you can also try the balloon trick. Blow up some balloons to be the same size as the lights (as close as possible.) Or you could mock something up with cardboard which would work well since your lights are rectangular (and very cool by the way.) Then hang your mockups on strings from the ceiling. You can play with positioning and length of string to see what you think. Stand by them to check your sight lines when working at the counter, and check them from further away to see how they look. I did this when I replaced a light in my kitchen with a light that has 3 separate globes that can be hung at different heights. I moved my table under the mocked up "light", sat the kids down for dinner, and fiddled around with the strings until I was happy with the heights of the balloons compared to the table. 3 years agoI like the first pendant you posted a lot, I would suggest blowing up a ballon to the scale and tie some string to it and blue tape it up there.....so you understand the scale you need to stay with in. anything too large is going to look stuck to the ceiling.

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoSo we're going to do 3 pendants with ideally 12" stems. Since the stems will be short, my thought is avoid glass shades (and light in someone's eyeline) and do something like these two. I could even put these 30" over counter if need be as well.
This one (above) is 12" wide and 9" tall but not quite a nice as this one.
This one is 14" wide and 12.5" tall so it's a stretch.My other thought is that if I did go with glass shades, I could put them much higher and they could almost function as semi-flush mounts. But I haven't found any that I like that much. I think I'm drawn to dome-shaped pendants.

3 years agoWell, if you dont want light in your eye clear globes is not the way to go, white milk glass will not glare in someone's eye it would be diffused. If you like the open bottom look go with the smaller one. you could keep searching "brass warehouse or barn light pendant" you might find more similar to that with a stem.
something like this would get you the width but less height
OR
go with something on chain rather than stem, because that woud let you be more flexable on the hanging height.
