If the patio door fits with the dining zone [enuf space left for wiggling around table to go out].....then I would proceed with that part. You will be able to configure differently but the net gain wont be terribly different....Instead...the peninsula could be shortened...and pulled closer into kitchen/ and more can be made of dining zone, in truth. With dining zone so close, the bit of barrier with peninsula is not unwise. If you expect less from peninsula seating aspect and instead embellish dining zone you can achieve slightly dfferent but good results. Expectation of peninsula seating when chairs are so close is just unrealistic in my opinion. But with door removed and patio door instead...and on to L shape perhaps island is what comes to mind..not enough room likely. So if it''s L with the small opposite wall, as mentionned.... is that a gain to you? You completely lose the buffer section between dining and kitchen. AGAIN.....consider peninsula cut back but leave it generally and tighten up by moving it in to kitchen and work with dining seating. If door is moved away you can also do a galley with the run coming off wall right at door position and open end of galley is over where mixer is on counter. So bottom line....moving door might give you different options/ not sure one is better than the other and calculate costs for door removal and install of patio door. Bad time to be doing this kind of stuff......maybe plan, and perform these things mid year . Show your dimensions.

Thanks. Our main thought is that the corner from stove around to sink will provide slightly more counter space and then the left wall would have access to all counter space too. This photo has been my inspiration (obviously the left wall is shorter in our situation)
