Green-eyed monster.

This is jealousy. The reference is to Othello (act III, scene 3) in which Iago says, "O! Beware, my lord, of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on."

Great play. I re-wrote the play for a university assignment and put it in a Canadian context where Othello was Aboriginal.

Taut ship or tight ship This nautical phrase is used to describe a ship whose crew is well-disciplined and whose efficiency rating is high. During WWII, the phrase used was mostly taut ship. Presumably it comes from the days of sailing vessels when lines drawn taut would be sign of a shipshape craft and crew. (THE FIRST ONE DISAPPEARED - AGAIN!)

It's one that I remember DF using regularly! I was surprised to hear from DH that DF would swear pretty vehemently. He never swore around us, his children, and Sam Hill was about as "colorful" that he would get.
