Sink Grids ... coated or stainless steel
Comments (6)Go with the stainless grid. We have both kinds of grids (2 sinks); I would love to have a plain stainless steel grid instead of the coated one, but it's not available. The grid that is coated already has a spot where rust is showing, so it's obviously not stainless steel underneath. A hot pan will definitely melt the coating....See MoreHow To Remove Paint From Stainless Steel
Comments (2)The appliance may have a coating over the SS. If it does, acetone will most likely remove that protective coating. If you use acetone, tape off the unaffected area with painter's tape. Use a q-tip to apply the acetone, keeping the paint wet until it softens enough to pull it or scrape (plastic scraper) away....See MoreHow do I remove dark stains from stainless steel sink

Comments (50)Sometimes acids such as from fingerprints can expose the iron component of stainless steel, and when it oxidizes (rusts) a darker area appears. I am aware of two approaches for removal: (a) an acid such as phosphoric, oxalic, acetic, etc. is used to reduce the oxide, then the surface is washed and dried. This usually suffices for a long time if the environment is relatively dry. (b) The other is based on scouring, and a very fine abrasive such as BKF can be used. I use BKF powder to shine up a naked polished brass sink (using an optics cleaning cloth), so I think it is fine enough for brushed stainless steel if rubbed in the brushed direction. Washing will be needed to remove all of the fine grit from the brushed texture....See Morekudzu9
