boomer fingers...my grandson makes fun of me for it. I type almost exclusively on my macbook pro...it's so handy to have text available from there. Although, like with every other written communication, it allows me to be much too wordy!

Index finger. It makes my thumb joint hurt just thinking about making it do the texting work. I'd love to be able to text all with one hand. So this is how people know I am old?

My hands have so many contracture I have to use my fingers. Thumbs don’t bend too well.

Same as wildchild - swype if short, voice to text if longer. And only if I can't avoid using the phone. When home, and like others I'm spending more time home lately, a PC is never far away and that's my preference.

I hate text messages, unwieldy and too hard to refer back to. No way to easily find past messages. Email me whenever possible, please.

If I absolutely have to, one finger or if more that a couple words, I use the stylus.

I'll use voice to text if typing into Google Maps, or search. (Or searching for the location of an item in Walmart)

Truthfully, I don't even like trying to type on my laptop. My hands/fingers are used to a full sized keyboard. Yeah, I know if I used it all the time I'd get used to it but...

I'm a finger typist, just never got the hang of using my thumbs. I rarely ever use voice to text - it seems like I spend more time fixing typos and punctuation than if I just typed out the message, and I really don't like talking to my devices.

Usually neither, I have my iPad in a clam case with a keyboard, so I type my texts. I don’t like using my phone to text and try to avoid it at all costs. When I have to though I use my finger.

I use a stylus, and I have one that has a string attached to a plug that will fit into the phone's microphone jack, so that it always stays with the phone.

I also hate texts, but I do tend to make them as brief as possible. I generally only text when I am a passenger in a car or if I am responding to an extremely brief and timely message.

I prefer to use a keyboard that allows me to use all of my fingers, and I would never consider just using thumbs - that's not how I learned to type.

Thumbs but always have to go back and correct errors. My kids swype, no idea how they do it and they are fast.

I'm seagrass. I learned to type from copy in high school. The skill has served me well. I don't have a smart phone, only a flip phone used rarely. I use a MackBook Air. The screen and keyboard on my laptop are much easier to see for me.

I definitely prefer to use my laptop and send emails, but sometimes I use DH's phone to text DS, because it's more likely that my messages will be read. I text using my index finger and have learned to use shorter snippets in messages instead of being wordy.

Thumb, and I used glide-typing, I guess it‘s like Swype, but it’s a feature of the keyboard on my phone that I activated.

Hmmm.. I text with my right thumb. Much prefer email,(edit to say computer keyboard) but it seems people I know don't bother to read email for a while. Sometimes not at all!

If someone wants to talk to me I much prefer email. I hate texts, and Messenger. Drives me crazy.

My neighbour uses voice to text and I'll get long emails, with no punctuation whatsoever. That also drives me batty.

I'm a right thumb texter. Had to try to write a text to see how I do it!

One finger for short texts (I am improving!) but for longer ones, I'll compose an email on my laptop, send to myself and then copy and paste into a text msg. I know....totally insane but much quicker for me than pecking out a long text msg, proof reading, make corrections, proof again, correct the corrections, etc.

Thumbs. Used to swype on an android and missed it terribly when switching to iPhone, but now that it’s available I haven’t reacclimated to it.

Using Google Messages on my Android phone and Messages for Web in the browser on my desktop computer, I can take advantage of my full sized keyboard/display.

I very seldom text but if I were going to (while at home), that's how I would do it.

Thumbs. Though I often have to go back and correct mistakes that are so egregious that even autocorrect is stumped.

I like texting. Its a good way for me as a night minion to stay in contact with family. I am on several family group texts. I sleep during the day and wake up and hit the ground running, so I don't have time to chit chat to my parents or siblings on the phone, and while I obviously can't just sit and yack on the phone at work all night, I can have several conversations simultaneously over texts. My mom likes to text as well. We send each other pictures of our respective rose gardens,its a hobby we share.

And it's a good way to get a message across or even have a conversation without bothering other people. I was in my surgeons waiting room yesterday, already on the very edge about what he might say, and I was getting increasingly irritated at the other patients yelling on their phones. "IM ON THE 6TH FLOOR. THE 6TH. NO, 6!" If she had just sent that in a text, there would be no need to YELL it 3 times would there? And I got a FULL report on why another woman was there, all the gory details, while she was telling someone all about it on her phone. This morning, when I go back, I can just send a quick group text: "wish me luck" to any number of people without having to make a bunch of phone calls.( I won't though, none of them have any idea what going on. But if I wanted to tell anyone, I would do it in a text. Easier.)

I also keep my texts, so I can go back and search them for key info. Every single year I have to go into my texts and search for my nephews addresses so I can send them their birthday or Christmas money or their yearly popcorn tins. Its handy.

My DMIL likes to text on her iPad because it's the best way to keep in touch with her grandchildren! She's almost 95.

I love to type so I much prefer my laptop, but do text and just use my finger. Find it awkward to do.

I poke with my thumb....I not someone who can type with both thumbs at the same time.

Thumbs, and I'm as fast at thumb-typing as I am with touch-typing on a keyboard. I'm GenX.

I‘ve looked back at text messages with my co-band-parent, and it’s a riot to try and follow the 3 conversations we had going on at once. Just like being there together, I was in Costco and texted her to confirm how many students and compare prices etc, and in between we were talking about the neighborhood, our older kids, our pets. We had a lot of fun, but we could do it while she was at work. I’ve had conversations from waiting rooms, while watching a movie at home, etc. And with my brother living on the other side of the globe, we can have short conversations that span days, and not mind waiting an hour or 12 between responses.

Mostly thumbs, but occasionally I'll use a one-finger poke. And I'm learning swipe but I think I'm faster with thumbs.

Edited to say, I just realized I don’t use ‘just thumbs‘ at all except on my iPad. I text on my phone using my left thumb and right forefinger. I didn’t even realize it until i picked up my phone a few minutes ago. It’s the way I hold it that sort of forces me to do it that hybrid way. Works for me.

1/2 time index finger, but swype is *the best!* If you don't know what it is, check it out! It's amazing with predictive text, it's right 80% of the time, even when I'm sloppy.

There was a big push a while back to get everyone to use voice to text but most people don't like to advertise what they're saying in public it appears. I figure if anybody listens to me they will just fall asleep from boredom anyway. My texts are usually short and to the point.
