Kitchen recessed light placement in Galley Kitchen
Comments (4)MR16s are low voltage lights that require an external transformer. I personally have never seen them in a house. I have seen GU10, but never seen them as general kitchen lighting. I have one rental that has GU10 in the hallway and it is pain to even find a replacement. I would have to see how this would look in a kitchen. Do you have any links to images of this look in a kitchen? Also, I have gone back and forth on the 4" vs 6" Cans. I have always used 6" cans in the past unless it was for spotlighting. Do you have any links to articles talking about this issue? I will probably go and look at some of the new homes and see what they are using and how it looks. Maybe I can get 5" Cans as compromise, but I don't see them as often....See MoreWafer lights - size and quantity
Comments (10)I just installed wafer lights in my "new" 1939 home. These were made by Lithonia Lighting, with selectable color temperature, and only about 1" thick. They are amazing. People need to understand these are not recessed lights -- they sit flush with the ceiling so they will spread light wider than a typical recessed light the same size. It also means you'll get more glare (if you're the type that stares at the ceiling). In two bedrooms larger than your kitchen six 4" lights in each were plenty bright (my girlfriend complained they were too bright after only three were installed!) -- and they definitely will get a dimmer. In a stairwell I was prepared to put in three 6" wafer lights and after installing one we realized it is plenty of light. So the wafer LED lights are very bright, have good light spread, and are dimmable. I bought mine on Amazon for about $22 each. As someone pointed out kitchen lighting is different. You don't want a simple grid like your builder wants to install. The light should be over your prep areas and placed where they won't throw shadows on what you are prepping, so you need to consider this carefully. It's easy to dim lights but harder to add more or move them. Hopefully you will have undercabinet lighting as well.....See MoreMixing Wafer Light Size
Comments (9)Note that you designate one speaker as Master and others as Satellites. The Master connects to your phone (or computer, receiver, etc.) via Bluetooth so be sure the Master is near where you will put the device to which the Master will connect. You probably shouldn't put the Master and Satellites too far apart. Lithonia makes a 6SL Companion which looks exactly like 6SL the Speaker-Light but is only a light. If you use those instead of the 4" wafers, all the fixtures will look the same. Both are available with various color temperatures which you'll want to match....See MoreRetrofit canned ceiling lights vs replace with wafer lights?
Comments (12)" I am going to pass on just using LED bulbs in the cans - the fact trim have turned a cream color and against my nice whit celings, stick out" What you're calling "cans" have three components: the housing, trim, and bulb. My preference would be to replace the trim and use LED bulbs. You didn't write how large the housing are but for 6" housings, I like the Juno 27* trims with PAR-30 3000K bulbs (example). Of course you can also just replace the trim and bulb with an integrated unit such as this Juno 6RLD, available in 3000K and 2700K color temperatures. With either solution, there is NO reason to remove the housings. "I think I am able to replace the ceiling flush mounts with the wafer style." You can't do that because the electrical boxes are in the way. Use a surface-mount such as the Halo SMD (available in various shapes and sizes) that can be installed over the electrical box....See Morekatieemarie
