Inspiration needed for front steps/walk/railings
Comments (17)Love your entry!! A while ago I remember someone entering a post with brick and travertine mixed on an outside patio entertainment area and front entry. The poster had flagstone on steps with bullnosed brick edging the steps. They had found great colors that flowed together It was very pretty and the textures worked well. If you do a search on outside entertainment areas maybe you will find it. That said, I agree with squirrel that the stone on the columns wouldn't be the right fit. I would stick with the wood columns, and if a change is desired maybe change the look with simple detailing. Comments (24)Congratulations on your baby girl! I have nursery envy. We will not be moving into our new home until summer of '08 and we just had a baby girl in September--she's currently sleeping in our master suite and the only nursery furniture we have set up is a lingerie chest in the closet. Anwyay, she'll get her nursery when we move. I just wanted to compliment you on the beautiful crib bedding--it's so sweet and perfect! Have you decided on a name yet? That was the thing that kept me busy while pregnant...lol. I kept calling DH at work saying, "What about....???" Good luck and have fun! Anna...See MoreHorizontal stair railing - trendy or timeless?
Comments (50)So my husband is thinking simple vertical looks pretty good after all :-). I'm laughing because I had ordered custom shades from a company that custom colors their own patterns in whatever color you want. I had approved a swatch but when the shades came in, the color was definitely a more blue/green shade than what I had approved. Apparently they decided to match the original fan deck swatch of theirs and not the color I actually approved. I was all set for them to replace it since the color was off. However the store then offered to take off the tax on my whole order (to the tune of almost $600). Between that and the new rug that picked up the same green color, I suddenly loved the new color shades. Funny about that! And I'm the only one who would ever notice the difference....See MoreQuick q .... drywall vs railing for stairs
Comments (33)In our old house we had drywalled stairs save for the bottom 2-3 steps with a rail on one side. I always meant to have solar tubes put in but never got around to it. It was low priority since no one spends any time on the stairs, they are just a passthrough. But a bright stairwell is nice if you can do it. In our current home, it is also a drywalled stairwell, with a half, slanted wall at the first four steps on both sides...painted trim on top. We could probably open it up another 4-5 steps but it’s not worth it. Fortunately there is a big window just to the left of the stairwell at the top, so it is not dark like the last house. I agree that if you don’t need the wall space to keep it as open as possible....See Morearcy_gw
