Do you brush your pet's teeth?

I had Bud (14-yr old cat) for his checkup today and he has tartar again on his back teeth, and heading towards gingivitis. He had his teeth cleaned last year at this time and 3 little extractions ($1200). I was quoted $700 for the cleaning today, no extractions.

He seems to be prone to tartar. I had my finger in his mouth so he'd get used haha to getting his teeth brushed. I was thinking of buying a child/toddler toothbrush if there's such a thing with a little head. I also have those little wee pipe cleaner cleaners to go in between my teeth, but I'd like something with a longer handle.

I'll be working this up gradually, finger, then maybe a cloth around my finger. I found a rubber brush thing that goes over my finger that we tried with Smudge, but it's too fat and Bud hated it.

I'm also going to buy some pet toothpaste.

I'm looking for ideas on what to use for a toothbrush.
