Does anyone have a Kohler Smart Divide Sink or have an opinion?
Comments (4)I decided on getting the new Vault, which is also Smart Divide. We wash a lot of dishes by hand, so I need two sides, and I like all the accessories that Kohler has, like the dish drain/rack. I do a lot of cleaning in the kitchen by filling one side with dish soap and clorox, using a dish towel to wipe everything down. Having two bowls lets me do that easier and faster..... ....and having that lower bridge in the middle means if I forget and leave the water on, I won't flood the entire kitchen.... ...not like that has ever happened! Comments (5)sorry so late getting back. we've been finishing up the kitchen and crazy busy. capegirl-- i can't think of any 'cons' except maybe that this particular sink has a stopper that catches water in the top. stupid design... when the stopper just sits in the sink waiting to be used, it catches water in the top. somehow, that grosses me out. but that's not really about the low divide sink-- so no. we really just love everything about it. our dishwasher is also on the left-- just had to be because of this and that. don't mind though... from right to left, we have garbage drawer, sink with disposal on the left, then dishwasher. works really well. no problem. let us all know how yours turns out. -kawh707...See MoreSilgranite 1 3/4 low-divide, Kohler Woodfield or Franke Orca?
Comments (14)kksmama, no offense taken. And I don't mean any offense to those who love their Sigranite. Actually, I think the silgranite in the Anthracite and darker colors are very pretty, but I really want white. And their white has all these dots that remind me a bit of the stand-alone laundry sinks. JMHO. I've spent way more time than is reasonable reading about fireclay sinks in the last 24 hours, and I'm intrigued. I'm not too concerned about the color of white matching, and it's not likely I'll find a sample here. All I have is Fergusons - where all of our plumbing, lighting and appliances are coming from - but they don't have a sample of any white fireclay on the showroom floor. The sink is going into the island. The countertop I'm considering for the island is LG Viatera quartz Everest - very grey/white with small green ming chips in it. But lots of whites, so a match shouldn't be an issue. Thing is, I still don't think I can wrap my mind around only having a single bowl sink. I want my dh to be able to get water or plop something in one side of the sink while I'm working on the other. I want a smaller bowl for suds to wash as I go, but still be able to use the sink. Right now at the top of my list is the Franke PRK160 33" Undermount Double Bowl Fireclay Sink. It has two bowls but the larger bowl is ~21 1/2" by 18 1/2". I can't think of any pans that I'll use that won't clean in that space. the smaller bowl is only 8 1/4x 15 1/2", which at first glance sounds ludicrous. Why bother? But then I measured my current sink - and my second bowl is 9"x11 1/2", and I use it to wash nearly all my dishes. I stack my dirty dishes in the side that is 12"x11 1/2". I'll also mention that I currently live on a boat, and my kitchen is roughly 3'x5'. I don't have to take any steps to move from my refrigerator - an icebox configuration that I have to dive down into from the top, to my stove - a 3 burner propane model that is gimbled and fits a 9"x13" cookie sheet into the oven, and my sink which is stainless, double bowl that measures at the outside 22"x12". All of my counter space doubles as the top of something else, the insert top to the sink, the top of the dry storage cabinet, the insert top to the stove, and the top of the refrig. But I still manage to put out some amazing meals, and I've loved cruising on our boat so the inconvenience has been worth it. Anyway, I think I'm down to the Franke PRK160 or the Kohler Woodfield. Either one in white. Oh, Williamsem, the sink base cab is 36" so I've got room for any of these. Thanks for pointing that out though. Comments (10)"why do you think most folks prefer a single basin?" There are a thousand posts on this topic on this forum if you want to search. But in summary, (1) a single basin sink allows a large pan or pot to lay flat to be soaked, (2) you won't bang into the annoying divider while washing pots and pans, (3) you have more space under the sink because you don't have two drain pipes, (4) you use less water to soak pots and pans because you can lay them flat in the sink and fill them with water rather than having to prop them up against the divider and fill the entire sink bowl all the way to the top and still miss soaking the top third of the pan, (5) if you have a disposal and a two-bowl sink, the side without the disposal always has slimy contents in the drain strainer that you have to dump to the other bowl with the disposal and whichever side the disposal is on, you wished you had the disposal on the other side, and (6) as @joseph_corlett said, two-bowl sinks are relics from when dishwashers were not common, but now most everyone has a dishwasher where the dirty dishes should go (as an aside, do not rinse your dishes before putting in the dishwasher, just scrape)....See Morelcrouter
