I would just do the privacy fence in the back.

Does everyone fence in their front yard?

I’m personally not a fan of the three rail. Reminds me of a horse coral.

If I had to put a fence I would put more of a picket fence. There are different

versions.

No, not everyone fences in their front yard, but that 3 rail fence is throughout my neighborhood which I was just going to use it to tie my home in to the rest. This picture close up of the fence is directly across the street from me, and the pond photo, my house is on the left, to give you an idea of what the area looks like. There is a barn here that was converted into multiple homes as well. I think they where going with a farm feel, as that was what was here before it was developed.

what’s height of 3 rail fence? Looks like neighbor to right has that. What are Your reasons for fencing in front yard vs not? Which side of pro / con is longer list & stronger reasons? Who mows the grass? A strong reason for not fencing front yard is the extra work to cut around the posts & under the rails & maintain a nice appearance. I don’t think front yard fence enhances the look of your home. Seems that my vote is no based on those two items. Unless there’s a very strong reason or benefit to add front yard fencing.

3 rail is 4 ft high. Basically wanted to separate the yards. 3 rail is all thru the neighborhood so that’s why I was going with it. The privacy fence is for the dogs. It extends out from the sides of the house due to our only “back door” coming out of the side. My thinking is/was that it would make the privacy fence look finished. Here’s an outline of where the privacy fence is going, and an idea I had for some of the 3 rail in the front yard. As far as mowing, I was going to mulch around as much as possible to minimize mowing issues.

The 3 rail fences would be hard to mow around, agree.. I would just do the back yard privacy fence. For a front yard, I would consider the purpose. I’ve always wanted a low wall with wrought iron on top, then a gate. But that’s so the dogs couldn’t conceivably run into the street should they get out the front door AND a gate would keep solicitors/door hanger-dropper -offers etc far away from the front door. Depends on your circumstances.

I'd give the 3 rail a rest. The two most immediate yards to yours are fenceless. As far as the property line goes, I'd mow a foot over the line and keep great relations with your neighbors.

What gorgeous property around you & love the pond, Canadian geese & mallards! Hope your doggies aren’t retrievers or pointers! 😁 Is this wood fencing or PVC? Maintenance is what I’m thinking about, 4’ rail fencing is suggestive of farm or horse fencing but not high enough for actual horses. There’s lots of it in my county which is a very high per capita horse owner county in my state of WA so there’s lots of rail fencing on horse propertie. If you add it, the neighbor next to you is the odd neighbor out with fences on either side. So, the fence - it’s a slippery slope you know - with rail fencing comes wrapping them with holiday greenery & miniature lights! 😇 If the majority of your neighborhood has the fencing, I’d say go for it. I would sure give neighbors on either side a heads up of plan just as a good neighbor thing to do & one never knows, maybe they’ll do their yards too & fencing along property lines becomes a joint shared cost effort.
